@Crumbs: A lot of times when I encapsulate a placenta, the Mom asks me to save the umbilical cord. I've started forming it into a little heart and tossing it in the dehydrator, and then I put it in a little velvet bag for them.
Personally, I wouldn't want a dried umbilical cord as a keepsake. But a lot of other people do, so you're not that unusual!

I thought of an odd thing my family has done (I don't know if it's cultural): saving the umbilical cord stub and putting it in a box. I've done it with LO and DH and the in-laws thinks I'm nuts! But it came so naturally for me! ;D

@meredithNYC: I'm gonna really have to stick to it then! :) Today was easy because it's actually sunny (it's been gloomy for almost 2 weeks)! I'm afraid I'll chicken out when it's really winter outside. I honestly need inspiration myself - it's pretty depressing during winters here and I *don't* want cabin fever this year.

That's great that she took so well to it! I really want to be that way - getting LO out even when it's cold. So you will have to be my inspiration :)

I won't admit it anywhere else, but for the first time ever, I actually felt almost Swedish today. The first snowfall came yesterday but it was really sunny this morning, so I took LO out for a walk. Her first walk in freezing temps! She's super cozy in her bundler and fell straight to sleep. I had her sleeping on the deck in the backyard and even walked inside for 2 mins while I boiled water for my latte (I have a fast kettle)!

I finally brought her inside because, get this, it's too sunny and I'm afraid she'd get sunburned! Wahhhh ... I've come a long way!

Why almost? Because I would have raked the damn leaves before I had my coffee, if I was ;D

[attach=1448/12/mchu2a.450x600.almost.jpg]

Are there any local customs you've surprised yourself in practicing? How about some odd cultural practices that your parents did with you as a child? Will you do the same for your LO?
