My daughter is 4 1/2 months. She goes to bed between 5:30 and 6:30 pm, and wakes up between 4:30 - 5:30 am. We have to leave the house by 5:45 am on the weekdays, so, it is what it is. She wakes up that early on the weekends too, unfortunately! But she'll usually fall back to sleep again between 6:30-7:00 and sleep for an hour or two.

DS1 is 4 - he never naps. We aim for 8 pm bedtime, but he often falls asleep at 8:30. He is up around 6:30 am. I never have to wake him.

DS2 is 20 months. He naps 2-3 hours in the afternoon. He sleeps 8-7. He's my dream sleeper (after a horrendous first 14 months!)

We eat dinner between 6-630, baths start at 7:15 or 7:30.

I would absolutely cut your kiddo's nap if you want to have an earlier bed time!

My two are 2.5 and 5.5 and bedtime is kind of loose, but they go to bed generally sometime between 7 and 8. We do dinner, bath or shower, stories and bed. Luckily, they don't try to stall.

my 3.5 yo recently stopped napping at preschool, and was basically a mess when we got home. at that time we were putting her to sleep around 8pm and shed sleep til 7 ish. however, we noticed that it still took her awhile to fall asleep and she'd be up til 830pm or later. so we moved her bedtime up to 730ish, and for some reason, that time is the sweet spot where she'll fall asleep within 10 min. so i think she was getting way overtired. it is a hussle to get in bed by then ,but so worth it for all of our sakes! ;-)

ds is 2 and sleeps at the same time 730-7, but still naps from 1-3 ish. he seems to fall asleep fast no matter what time we put him down. which is good because he always wakes up the same time no matter what.

My 3y4m old doesn't nap and goes to bed at 7-7:30pm. He wakes on his own around 6:30/7am. Same for my 19m excepts she naps for 2h.

When DS still napped he didn't fall asleep until 9:30/10pm. So I much prefer the way it is now.

b is 3 and goes to bed at 7pm and wakes up naturally at 615-630.
g is 19 months, goes to bed at 7pm. If it's a daycare day, dh wakes her just after 8. If it's a none daycare day, it depends, but we wake her often at 9am or she sleeps until 930am.
It's very busy for dh to get them to bed by 7 after daycare. They aren't home until 6. Daycare typically feeds them dinner, but often he gives a snack. We bathe in the am to save time in the pm.
We are both huge believers in early bedtimes and stick as close to 7pm as possible.

He's almost 2 and I voted 7:30 but it's more of an average. Some days it's 7 and if he napped late it'll be more like 7:45/8.
Dinner is at 5:30/6, but I SAH so I don't have to rush home from work. And I also don't really "cook", I reheat things. So that saves a lot of time.
DH and I generally eat after LO is in bed.

I noticed you said "clean up kitchen" before your son goes to bed. I don't do any of that until he's in bed. I might dump his dishes in the sink and wipe the floor around his chair, but I don't actually do dishes or wipe down the kitchen till he's down. OR my husband will do bath while I do kitchen which gives us a little more time to hang once LO is down.

Almost 2 and bedtime is between 7-7:15pm. I am fairly rigid about sleep routines. He eats dinner at 6pm (we usually eat after he's in bed), then we go upstairs for bath/books/songs around 6:30-6:40. He generally wakes up between 7-7:30am.

4 yrs old and almost 3 yrs old: bedtime is 7:30pm-6:30am. sometimes they go to bed later (8:30) if people are over at our house, etc.
no naps though for either of them anymore... otherwise for sure they would not be sleepy until around 8:30-9! :)

My boys are 2.5 and 6 months and they are both in bed by 7pm most days. If DS1 has napped he might take quite a long time to fall asleep but he just lays there in his bed so unless I check the video monitor I don't notice. If he hasn't napped he's asleep in minutes. They both wake between 6 and 7am, usually the toddler first.
We don't get to eat dinner as a family which is a shame (dh is home after they are in bed most nights), but I sah so it isn't hard to get them in bed early. In fact sometimes it's hard not to put them to bed too early so I can get a break! 😉

I don't follow a rigid schedule but need to try harder to get our LO (15mos) to bed earlier. DH only gets to see her at dinner/bed time, so I usually get her fed between 5-6 while I'm preparing things for our dinner. DH often doesn't get home until 7:30, though, so he & I eat as soon as he gets home. She will often eat some more of whatever we are having, which is a nice compromise as "dinner together", though she's really just snacking by then. We try & do some clean up while she plays, unless she's cranky, then we all head up to start her bedtime routine of (bath if necessary/not already done earlier) diaper, jammies, stories/playing, nursing then songs. This can take an hour, but if she is happy, I know DH loves this hour with her. This means she's usually asleep between 9-9:30p. She wakes anywhere between 6:30 & 8am depending on the previous day's naps/bedtime. She's still on a 2 nap routine & they last ~1.5hrs each, usually.

Bedtime has always been 6:30 for us. We don't eat dinner as a family during the week because DH and I both get home to late to make dinner before DS starts to go crazy. He is 3. We've tried pushing bedtime back but he can't seem to handle it and wakes even earlier in the morning when we do that!

@irene: Oh man, there's no way I'd sit around longer than 30 minutes for dinner! Ain't nobody got time for that!! And we do bath every other night. So our evening routine looks like this on bath days:

5:15 - home from daycare
5:45 - dinner on the table (sometimes sooner)
6:15 - done with dinner, start water for bath
6:45 - done with bath, one episode of something
7:15 - brush teeth, do inhaler, change into PJs
7:30 - stories with Logan (20m), put him to bed
7:45 - stories with Xander, potty one last time, in bed by 8:00

ETA - If he's still hungry after bath, he can finish his dinner or have a snack while watching a show.

@irene: We also do a bath every night, especially in the summer. I sometimes do the bath before dinner. My son doesn't need the steps to be in the exact same order every night, so on especially dirty days, like when he's gone to the beach in the afternoon, he gets his bath as soon as he comes in the door.

LO is 3, bedtime is around 7:30/7:45. She wakes up at 7 on her own. We don't do bath every night. So dinner is around 6, I try to get the bedtime process started by around 7, depending how long she napped. She's in a big stalling phase so I try to build a little extra time in for that. I try to be leaving her room by 7:30 or 7:45. On a good night she takes maybe 5-15 minutes to fall asleep. I go straight to nursing the baby and getting her into bed after that.

If they need baths I make sure to do dinner on the early side. I usually clean up after they are in bed and sometimes eat dinner myself after, depending on what we are having and when DH gets home.

@looch: Yes they still nap at school! I also notice that is the problem. Over the weekend there is no way we can get him down for a nap (unless driving on the car for a while then he'd doze off), and he falls asleep within 10 mins-1/2 hour.

@bushelandapeck: I wish mine sleeps so much!!

@sandy: Thank you this is very helpful... sometimes I feel bad laying out dinner so early and I would start dinner between 6:00-6:30... but maybe I can start dinner at 5:30. Just bummed because there is no way for husband to join us for dinner then...

This is all very inspiring .... thank you! I will really make an effort to push it up to 7:30pm.... so maybe we'll actually end up in bed at 8 :) The problem with us is DS takes FOREVER and a day to finish his dinner. Sometimes it can take him 1.5 to 2 hours (!!!) to sit at the table. but he'd finish all his dinner by the end of eternity so I kinda am not motivated to snatch his food away.

ETA: And how do some of you NOT have bath every night??? My kid is filthy dirty by the end of day every day!! Gosh lol

Almost 3 and her bedtime is between 7:30 and 8:00. We don't do a bath every night. I try to prep some dinner in the morning (this morning I cooked the rice so all I need to do is saute the veggies) and I don't clean up the kitchen until after she's in bed. She doesn't have to go to sleep right at 8:00, but she does have to stay in her room and on her bed. That's the only rule. If she needs to potty, she calls one of us and we take her.
