This happened yesterday and I had to put her down for a catnap. Her normal 2 hr morning nap turned into a 3 hr marathon nap which threw the whole day off. She was super happy then just crashed at 430. We ended up putting her to bed 1.5 hours later because of the nap and in hindsight, not doing that again. Next time I am just going to tough it out a bit more and put her I bed early!!! =\

We either leave the house or I'll carry him around the apartment (he's usually less fussy if he's being held and walked around). Or, if I'm desperate, I'll turn on the tv and let him be distracted for 10-15 min or so. Anything to get us to bedtime!

Last night, we had this problem. I took her out back and we watched the dog play fetch. Then, we fed her (while she was angry) and immediately went from dinner to bath. She was angry in the bath, too unfortunately. She ended up falling asleep at 6 when she normally goes to sleep between 6:30 and 7. I figure she just needed the sleep.

We usually go for a walk. She loves being outside and I can usually get an extra hour or so of non-fussiness before we start our bedtime routine.

We didn't go out today, but I will try that one next time! We had already been gone a while just before she got cranky so I wanted to stay in. I distracted her with some toys she got for Christmas that we hadn't opened yet, it kept her busy almost an hour! I gave her a bath and then walked around the house and picked up a bit while holding her, like @autumn865 just mentioned. :)

I agree that it helps to leave the house or now it is nicer going for a walk. A lot of times in this circumstance I will either hold DD and do some things around the house or put her on my lap with toys or books. The closeness I think helps her hold it together.

Leave the house! I frantically text other moms in the neighborhood to see if they want to take a walk to the park.

We have a clip on high chair so sometimes I pop LO on it and give her a teething rusk to suck / chew on while I cook dinner. The rusk keeps her occupied and she can watch me in the kitchen

We try leaving the house. If that doesn't work, we give her a bath (that almost always calms her down) and then we'll do early bed time.

:) we have this at least once a week.. We call it the finale.
Basically, Lo wakes from his last nap cranky as all hell. He stays this way until bedtime...so a little less than 2 hours.
We play, we eat, we talk to him...nothing. Just pissed.
I think the best way is to just start bedtime routine kind of early and extend it for as long as you can.
I sometimes start it like 45 minutes early even though I could do it in 15mins.
I extend the bath super long (loooves that). I extend the massage and reading time and he enjoys it.
Then I lay him down maybe 5-10mins early and spend that time singing to him or something.

Or if she likes car ides, you could always drive around or go for a quick stroller walk? My LO doesn't sleep in the car, he just babbles in his seat and looks out the window, so maybe try that?

In those situations we usually leave the house. It makes the time go faster and LO gets distracted. Sometimes we just take a blanket to the park down the street and just the change of scenery does the trick!

...and your LO is fussy, how do you make it those last few hours? Sometimes LO doesn't nap as long as she should so then she is crabby and ready for bed 1-2 hours before bedtime so I need some ideas on how to make it until bedtime!
