There are a lot of good suggestions on here already. If a lot of people are asking though, I would just suggest books as a great gift. It's cheap and pretty sturdy. As for armchairs, I know a lot of ppl love the Pottery Barn Anywhere Chairs. We don't have a PBK, so we ended up getting LO a little armchair that matches our couch. DD got hers for Christmas (1 month before her 1-year bday), and she is STILL obsessed with it - she's 2.5 years old now! We use it practically every day when we take her to the park, in lieu of a stroller.
