I didn't see my doctor until I was 9, so i would just schedule an appointment with the OB. You can have your regular doctor do blood work to confirm if you want, but otherwise I think you are fine with waiting until 9 weeks!

My midwife doesn't see patients until 10 weeks, so you should be okay if you wait until November. Congratulations on your BFP!

Previous Poster had a good idea go to a regular family doctor that you use now to get it confirmed for your own peace of mind. My OB didn't want to see you until 10 weeks so I was already 12 weeks by the time I could get in.

@T.H.O.U.: Good point! I looked into it and luckily, "Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protects pregnancy from being considered a preexisting condition, as long as the employer offers a group plan with maternity coverage." So I'll be covered as soon as his plan kicks in which is November 1st.

With my 1st, my first appointment wasn't until 10 weeks, they wouldn't even see me before 8 weeks. With my 2nd, my first appointment was at 12 weeks, I could have gone earlier with that doctor, but I was on vacation for the month leading up to the appointment.

8 weeks is pretty typical for a first appointment anyways. I'd call and make one for after November 1st. In the meantime, if you want to go see your GP to check in it can't hurt. If not, go ahead and take your prenatals and do what you can to stay healthy. Congrats! :)

Great! I think I'll call the new OB office first and explain the situation, hopefully make an appointment for the beginning of November and see if they want me to go in and get a confirmation in the meantime. I feel much better about the whole thing now, I knew you'd help! Thanks

Yeah, agree with others that my first appointment wasn't really until 10 or 11 weeks I think?

I didn't have my first appointment until almost 9 weeks. They typically schedule them between 10-12 at my OB. So waiting isn't out of the ordinary.

My first appointment was around 10 weeks, as well. I called the day after I got my BFP and they didn't want to see me before that unless I had bleeding or other problems. I don't think you'd really need many appointments before the new insurance kicks in, unless you have complications.

ETA: I agree with calling the new clinic, explaining that your insurance there hasn't kicked in yet, and asking what they recommend you do.

I just called and told them I was pregnant and they scheduled everything for me...a nurse visit to confirm the pregnancy and an appointment with the OB at 7 -8 weeks. Maybe you can tell them your situation and they can push it back for you?

I don't have too much advice, but I will say that I didn't see my OB until I was 10 weeks along. That's just how my practice & places around here seem to do it (unless you have had prior issues or saw a RE). So, maybe call your OB and ask when they like to schedule for? Maybe it would be after Nov 1st?

9 weeks isn't unusual for a first appointment. You could go to your regular doctor to confirm, and then wait for the new place for starting your prenatal.

So I'm a little bit in no mans land right now. Didn't really think we'd get a BFP on the first cycle trying, but we did and of course we're super excited!

Right now we have private insurance through one hospital/clinic (they only cover services in their hopsital/clinic) in our city, but it doesn't have maternity coverage, so anything I do with them we will be paying out of pocket. My husband just got a job as a nurse at the other hospital/clinic and we will be on a group health plan through them (that only covers that hospital/clinic) starting November 1st. I will be approximately 9 weeks along at that time. What would you suggest I do about the first two appointments? Should I make an appointment with my current GP just to have a blood test, and then make an appointment November 1st with an OB at the new hospital when I'm 9 weeks? I obviously want to minimize out of pocket costs while still doing everything necessary for the baby.
