In the morning if you can. Usually you produce the most milk over night. I always pumped after any feeding between 7 am and 9 am. I'd get an extra 2 oz in the beginning and that was generally enough for one bottle.

I struggled with the same thing (not wanting to worsen oversupply). Eventually, I ended up pumping a few ounces in the morning, when I was really full, because LO would only eat one side. It was uncomfortable for me, and by the time she was ready to eat the other side later in the day, I was SO full it would just blast her and she'd choke and cry. I found that pumping out 4-5 ounces after she ate in the morning made both of us a lot happier for the rest of the day. I also built up a pretty good freezer stash that way!

I think doing it this way did make me have more milk in the mornings than I might have otherwise had, but because I wasn't pumping a ton of extra milk out, it wasn't so bad.

I'm a pumping newbie - so for I've expressed 1 oz, just to make sure the pump was working!
I'm wondering when the best time to pump is. I'm not looking to build a big stash, mostly I'd like to have a few bottles on hand so that my husband can feed the baby occasionally, and so we can get him used to a bottle early on. I seem to have a very good supply, if anything an oversupply, which is why I'm not sure when to pump as I don't want to increase my supply further. Any advice?
