When I told him DH and I are working on our adoption application, he thought it was wonderful. Raises and promotions are not a real concern because I am in the top position at work and have guaranteed raises through our union contract. My workplace is a family friendly place to be but is very small with only 5 employees. I know my boss will be supportive and we will come up with a game plan to enable the time off I need. My boss is awesome and we've worked together for a long time so I would tell him right away. I would wait until things are looking pretty certain, unless you have an amazing relationship with your boss. However, I also desire to take additional time off in those first few months. My boss is very generous and my job is flexible. With an uncertain timeline for placement, should I be upfront now and make him aware of my plans? How have you or would you handle this situation? </p>
