They've always told me to look for retracted breathing when I was worried about one of mine with croup or rsv. Hope the night improved!

His doctor called back and said a virus is going around. So we are trying Tylenol (to bring he fever down in case that is the problem), spray out his nose so he can breath out of it, and give his lungs a steam out in the bathroom. We did that and I am waiting for results. So far the fever is gone but his breathing is still 40 per minute.

She said if it doesn't get better to take him to the er.

I think your gut is impt. The ER sucks, esp at night. There are so many really sick people there... If it's very out of the normal, def yes, just a little, I'd wait until morning.

Okay, trying to figure out if we can wait it out till tomorrow or if we need to do something more immediate (ER).

I had noticed some more coughing the last few days but nothing abnormal (he had a cold 2 weeks ago). Took him to gymnastics and after gymnastics he had a 99.8 degree fever and was retracting (not abnormal as he is super skinny). Well his fever isn't changing, but he is breathing quickly. 40 breaths a minute (counted separately by me and daddy).

I wouldn't say he was lethargic and he did eat dinner (which is better than what he has done at school the last 2 days).

So, can we wait it out until tomorrow and get into the doctor or is this something that we need to address right away? NOTE we do have a call into the on call doctor but haven't heard back yet.
