@daniellemybelle: lol I keep them home for just the bad colds (fevers, or just plain miserable, and moreso in preschool than elementary) but I just heard my kid tell the neighbor "well *I* went to school when I was sick!!" Right in front of everyone. I hope those parents know that she means snotty, not puking (like their kid was today, hence the start of this conversation..) so embarrassing, lol.

If my kids stayed home with colds, they would never go to school, and I am a SAHM/part-time WAHM so I can and do keep them home when they are truly sick. A dose of Tylenol or Motrin, early bedtime and lots of fluids usually gets my kiddo in good shape for school with a fever-less cold. (I also have a drama llama 5 year old that gets worse when she convalesces at home!)

I kept my son home a lot, but I also had very reliable back up care and I knew that it was one of those situations that most people don't have.

If it’s just a cold I keep my son home for these reasons:
1) he truly seems miserable. This never happens. Like maybe once in 4 years. He handles illness well, you’d never know he was sick based on temperament alone.
2) he’s sneezing so much that it would be annoying for the teachers (spread of germs and having to help him constantly). Like a messy snotty sneeze.

Otherwise he goes.

@CatchAFallingStar: we have a similar bug going through my house and I struggle with this decision too. So far I’ve sent her- she only goes two mornings a week so to miss one day feels like a lot, and she’s not so much sick as just under the weather and whiny. Probably the one day i would considered keeping her home happened to be the day I was scheduled to volunteer in her class anyway so we went (half the kids had a similar cough). But they also don’t really run around that much, it’s a pretty calm classroom.

So yeah like others, I base it on how they seem to feel and how contagious they seem. I stay at home so I wouldn’t be missing work but I would be missing extremely precious alone time.

I’m a FT WOHM with limited sick time. So as long as they don’t have a fever, don’t have diarrhea, and aren’t throwing up, they go to school.

In your situation, probably. I have had this debate with myself in the past and ultimately I tend to think “if I felt as sick as they seem to I would stay home from work.”

I'd give her one more day home. Don't want to deal with pneumonia or any of that sort of thing later, plus it can work with your work situation and she'd be more comfortable at home. Hope you both feel better very soon!

I would keep her home. Same as above, she likely needs rest and snuggles not to run around at preschool. When it turns into just a residual runny nose and energy is high, I’ll send my kid. I know the rule is fever, etc. but I also judge if he can keep up with the activities and not be a cranky mess.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Oh yes, good point to mention. I'm a photographer, but I work from home during the week. So, I wouldn't be missing work.

I probably would because at home she would be able to rest whereas school isn’t really set up that way. I also have PTO to spare.

DD has been sick since Friday afternoon. She has a pretty bad cold with sore throat, coughing, runny nose and sneezing. No fever. I have it now, too (which is beside the point but UGH). Should I keep her home from preschool tomorrow? What would you do?
