@BKCaribBaby: DS is 4.5 months (20 wks) and we started both night & nap training 3 days ago (sleepeasy solution - modified CIO).
Before this, we first started at least 1 nap/day in his crib and last week moved him to his crib for nighttime sleeping. We swaddle weaned 3 weeks ago (bc he rolled in his sleep). And we introduced a lovey when he was 2 months.
Good luck!!!

@BKCaribBaby: babies can be surprisingly clever and will often go down easy when Mum's not around! And don't forget that the nanny works for you so she needs to work with your comfort levels :-)

@BKCaribBaby: I agree. I would just wait and see how the nanny handles it -it might be a complete non-issue. We worked on sleep training with no cry sleep solution starting around 5 months and had slow, good results that I think were definitely aided by time and developmental changes. We did night first and then naps.

@BKCaribBaby: I think that you might be surprised! Your nanny might end up helping you with a lot of LO's sleep issues...I would imagine they usually have experience dealing with all sorts of LOs, so it might end up working out well! And if nothing else, I'm sure she's used to holding babies for naps :)

@Kemma: I guess I could try the transfer part first. I am most concernd about the fact that I won't be around and someone else will have to put her down for naps.

@hilsy85: It's true that I can always try again. I think a lot of my anxiety is related to the fact that someone else may have to deal with LO's sleep issues. I need to get over that.

I agree with introducing a lovey...as for sleep training, I personally didn't really feel okay with it until he was 6, 6.5 months. I also nap trained first (at 5 months) to get him to fall asleep on his own, but that's generally harder because they're not as tired during the day as they are at night. You can always give it a try! And if it doesn't work, try again a few weeks later.

Could you maybe try working on getting her to transfer to and sleep in her cot before you do all out sleep training? I'm thinking that CIO or other similar form of sleep training could be traumatic for you both if she's used to being held for the majority of her sleeps.

Now might be a good time to introduce some sort of lovey or soft toy for her to have in the cot, I wrap my LO in a soft blanket from the underarms down before I nurse her down for her sleeps and she seems to respond well to this, you could also try putting her to sleep on her tummy and then staying with her to get her resettled at the twenty minute mark when she wakes up.

I nap trained first but within a week was also sleep training. She was around 10 weeks and it worked great

We did both at the same time when DD was 3.5 months old. It is a little young but at the time she was breaking out of her swaddle and had learned to suck her thumb to self soothe so we went at it.

LO is incapable of simply falling asleep on her own even in a stroller. Occasionally, she will in the carrier. Since Week 5, I have had to hold her for naps in order to get her to sleep for more than 20 minutes. Every time I put her down she wakes up. She also cries when DH (or occasionally anyone other than me) tries to put her to sleep for naps.

The evenings are a bit better, but I usually nurse her or have to rock her to sleep. I start a new job in three week,s and I don't want to necessarily have our nanny hold her for naps. We also leave next weekend for about 8 days of travel/, so we don't want to start night sleep training this weekend or the coming week.

I've heard that you should night train before you nap train, but I'm wondering if we should prioritize the naps during this childcare transition. I'm worried about even attempting to do both at the same time.

Thoughts? Thanks.
