We have had the FP sit me up chair since 10 weeks - it's deep and supportive and has much wider holes than the Bumbo and it will last a long time. We put it on top of our table to feed him solids (just started, he's 4.5 months) and we will use that until he is big enough for his high chair at 6-ish months.

We had her in the fisher price bouncy chair and baby bjorn babysitter chairs as a newborn until 4 months, then bumbo from 4-6 months, then a real high chair at 7 months when she could sit up on her own.

I think I'll look into a reclining high chair. Today we put her in her car seat and had her next to us and she seemed to like being at the table with us. I didn't even know there were reclining high chairs. Any recommendations?

My baby is 3.5 months and I had been asking myself the same question. We had a high hair already but had not yet assembled it, but decided to give it a try. He rodent have complete neck control yet, but the seat on ours reclines and it's awesome!! It gives him a chance to watch us while we eat and we've been giving him toys to play with that he wouldn't normally be able to use lying down.

We used the bumbo until about 8 months when we finally bought a high chair. Everything became so nice once we had the high chair - no more worries of her falling out of the bumbo. The high chair we got (ikea blames) we love, but we've heard it works best with older babies, post 6 months. So I think if we had tried earlier we would have been disappointed.

We started using it at 4 months. He would sit with us while we ate dinner :) He didn't start solids until 6 months, but he liked to be where the action was.

@Pumpkin Pie: I think we could have done the high back one sooner, we just didn't have one. We used the jumperoo, bumbo seat, and I tried to hold/babywear him as much as possible. But honestly he spent a lot of time on his play mat and had a flat-ish head. It really stressed me out for a while, but at 7 months it's basically corrected itself without any intervention (beyond 2 PT session to teach us some stretches).

@birdofafeather: @Little Misters Mom: @Rainbow Sprinkles: where did you out your baby before you started using the high chair? I think maybe she's not quite ready, but I'm not sure whether it's good to keep her lying on the floor all the time. I'm worried that she'll get flat head.

Like others said, it depends on LO's head and neck control. My LO was strong, so she sat in the bebepod strapped to a dining room chair for meals with us from about 4 months or so on? Then we switched to the booster high chair at 6 months when she was actually eating food.

We have a fisher price space saver high chair that reclines way back, so we started using it at mealtimes just like you mention when my son was prob around 3 months.

Depends on head/neck control. With LO1, around 4.5 months. With LO2, more like 5.5 months. We stuck receiving blankets around them in the chair to help keep them from tipping over.

At 5 months he sat in one of the high back Graco ones at my uncle's house and did great. We don't have space at our place so we use the Iglesina hook on. We started that at 6 months and he does great. For small space city living, the hook on ones are great, but it's a HUGE pain to clean the fabric. If I had the space I'd probably get something like the Boon Flair, those huge Graco monstrosities, or even just the simple Ikea antelope plastic ones.

Depends on LO's head/neck control. I started with ours at 4 months even though he was still slightly hunched over and gave him toys to play with.

(We have the Boon Flair which is really easy to clean, but I would recommend never giving any kind of carrot-based pouch/puree because it may permanently stain the white plastic. I had to scrub forever!)

My LO is 4 months old, and she is mainly lying on the floor. We don't have a high chair yet, but I'm thinking of getting one so she can sit with us during dinner. Is it too soon? When did you start using a high chair for your LO, and which one would you recommend?
