Aww I'm sorry. I know that must be stressful.

Does she like smoothies? When my son wasn't eating much I was giving him a daily smoothie. I made it with whole milk, whole fat Greek yogurt (found it at trader Jose's), banana, strawberries and blueberries.

Also what about soup through a straw? Or a bowl with a draw. My son loves those and if it is teeth might be ok. and it's ok to give her a milkshake if it makes you feel better about the weight ;). My son is a peanut as well (guessing maybe 24 lbs at 23 months) and I stress when he doesn't eat well.

My son hates eating when teething. When his molars came in he literally did not eat more than a few bites of food for a week. But made up for it afterwards. It's frustrating but I would only be concerned if there was an underlying issue (suspected ear each or stomach issue etc). Hang in there and keep offering foods. At times like this I do let my son eat on the go which he much prefers to sitting in a chair.

@sunny: :( sorry about your LO's eating...I think all toddlers go through stages of pickiness or lack of appetite but it's so hard when they're tiny. Have you tried making homemade mini muffins - carrot, zucchini or banana are good. You could add cream cheese filling to the muffins to fatten her up. My LO loves soup (like miso soup or Korean seaweed soup) and mixing it with rice. Also homemade pizza could fatten her up and cut it into little triangles and talk about the shapes. Hopefully it's a phase that ends quickly!

@skipra: @Rubies: @brownie: it's definitely possible that her molars are coming in. She has also been sick on and off with a cold for a few weeks now so I wonder if that is it too. Thanks for the suggestions tho. My have my fingers crossed that she'll eat better tonight.

Kids won't starve themselves. My son still goes through cycles of not eating and then stuffing himself. And he has moved up in percentiles because as they get older they aren't supposed to gain as much (yay). One thing to eye is how much liquid they are taking in. That can sometimes fill them up. But my kid is very cyclical with his eating.

I really do believe that kids will eat when they're hungry.

Is it possible her molars are coming in?

We have issues with DS's weight and eating too. Some days he barely touches food so I try to make sure he gets a little extra milk. Usually he will have a couple days where he eats a lot more than normal after he goes through a phase of not eating much. Maybe she has an upset tummy or is teething? I'd give it another day or so before getting too worried.

ETA we have discussed his feeding issues with the peditrician and GI specialist and they both say to take him out of his high chair as soon as he is done and don't ever force feed so that he doesn't develop bad associations with eating.

Help! My 19.5 month old has been really fussy about eating the past month. It started when we were on vacation a month ago and hasn't really gotten much better since we've been back. She used to be a really good eater and would eat at least 6-8oz of food at each meal.

For the past 2 days, she's barely eaten anything. In the morning, she has eaten ~2 oz of yogurt, she barely touches her lunch at daycare (maybe 1-2 oz of blueberries and 2 bites of pasta) and then for dinner I might be able to get her to eat 2 bites of veggies and fish. I've been trying to make all her favorite things but she is refusing to really eat anything.

For reference, she is on the skinny side -- she was 5th percentile at her 18 month appointment (18 lbs) but she hasn't gained any weight in the past 6 weeks or so. She has lost ~6 oz in the past 2-3 days. I've been trying to make sure that the 2 bites she will eat are as nutritious and calorie packed as possible but I'm starting to get worried!

I don't want to make eating a chore for her so I try not to make her mad if I am offering her the food, but she gets super mad if I put something in front of her and she doesn't want it.

Will toddlers starve themselves or will they eventually eat?
