I've been debating whether or not to stop swaddling DD as well.

For a while i was just using the Aden + Anais blanket to swaddle her, and I was pretty lax about the wrapping since she was sleeping okay. Then at 9 weeks she discovered her other hand! She would bring it to her mouth while sucking on her regular hand, then knock it out of her mouth, waking her up. Once i realized what was going on, i've been double wrapping her (miracle blanket + aa) with one arm down. For the arm that's swaddled, try bringing the blanket tightly over her shoulder so that she can't get the arm out.

Keep us posted as to what you decided to do and what worked!

LO was a Miracle Blanket baby from 6 weeks until 19 weeks. I was hesitant to stop swaddling since she slept 11 hours at night and 1-2 hour naps during the day, but she was showing signs of wanting to roll over and it freaked us out that she might roll with her swaddle on. I test weaned around 16 weeks by leaving one arm out during naps but that did not work. She fussed the entire day we tried and just wasn't ready. I did a ton of research on MB swaddled babies and found the Zipadee-Zip, a starfish shaped wearable blanket. It took LO only a few naps to adjust to being swaddle free. I still swaddled her at night but after 4 days she fought bedtime for the first time in months, which I took as her protesting the swaddle. She slept all night that first night in the Zipadee-Zip!

I would give weaning a try to see if your LO is ready. If not, then try again in a couple weeks. Some babies just like to be swaddled longer. =)

We just went cold turkey and i was so stressed out the day i decided to try not swaddling her. We stopped swaddling a little before 3 months and I was scared it would affect her sleep (she was also sleeping 12-13 hrs at night). I tried not swaddling her for her 1st nap and even though it took her longer to fall asleep she still took a long nap...so I knew she didn't need the swaddle to sleep long stretches. I used the halo sleep sacks bc I wanted her to be warm when she slept (was born in winter)...I still use the sleep sacks even though it's warm at night but switched to a cotton one. I figure I like sleeping with a blanket do she should have done kind of covering while she sleeps

@zippylef: I wish my baby slept as well as yours! We JUST transitioned out of the swaddle for nights a few days ago. LO wasn't busting out at all, we just started some sleep training and I wanted to give him a way to self soothe. We used the magic Sleepsuit and it has been fabulous. A totally seamless transition! With that said, if your LO is sleeping no problem after busting out of her swaddle, a regular sleep sack would be fine...and I think it's just a 'safe blanket' since it isn't recommended to have blankets in the crib.

I thought the same thing, that DS was ready to be weaned since he was busting out of all my swaddle tricks; but I tried to wean him a couple different ways and it just made him more upset. :( So now, I either wrap his arms in a receiving blanket INSIDE the SwaddleMe or I tuck in a blanket very tightly across his arms ON TOP of the SwaddleMe. I figure I'll try to wean him again in a couple months, switching to this sleep suit:

You can test it out by only swaddling one of her arms. If she is fine with it then take out both arms, and only swaddle her tummy area. Once that seems fine, too, you can put her in a sleep sack. It's just a wearable blanket and I like them so I know DD stays warm all night and so far it has prevented her from doing any crib vaulting.

So, C has pretty much been a swaddle addict for her 3 months of life. She's now 14 weeks old. At about 5 weeks, we switched from a standard swaddle to a double swaddle because she was busting out every time. Well... Now she's figured out the double swaddle. Last night she slept all night (6pm to 6:30am) and when she woke up, had both arms out. Tonight, I just went in to check on her and she's got one arm out above her head.

So, it's probably time to stop swaddling, isn't it? What is the deal, with sleep sacks? Are they worth it? I was thinking about getting some of the cotton Halo ones.
