Brushing teeth is hell for us. She's 2 and seriously I'll bet the neighbors think I'm torturing her while brushing her teeth. I've bought her an Oral B electric brush, a Hello Kitty one, a plain pink one, no dice. I've tried letting her brush with her sisters, her brother, us, by herself, she just hates it. I'm scared to go to the dentist!

I think we started at around 12 months. She saw the dentist at 15 months. I was worried about cavities too, since we night nursed back then also... But thank goodness she checked out okay. It just made me more motivated to brush well and after every meal if she continued to nurse to sleep. (Eventually, I was able to brush after nursing and just pat her to sleep.) She hated brushing teeth til recently (a little over 2 yo now)... Keep at it though! Good luck!

I switched pretty early on because both kids got full mouths of teeth pretty early on.

They both loved regular toothbrushes so there was no transition. I've tried a LOT of different brushes and honestly they will use any. Just be sure to get a toothpaste with xylitol -- it has cavity fighting properties and can be swallowed.

I would do it now. We just pick them up at Target. If she doesn't like it let her "brush" for a day or so then you can take over

LOL! I switched her to a regular tooth brush at 17 months. She only had 8 teeth so i never really thought to make the switch. It took her a while to get used to the new toothbrush (she protested pretty hard), but i did the "let's try for 5 seconds," then "let's try for 10", etc.

We are still using Baby Banana Toddler Training Toothbrush at 18 months with a full mouth of teeth....is that ok?
I suck at this part of parenting. For some reason, deciding when, how and where to brush LO's teeth has become the straw that broke the camel's back. I stress about it because we often only get it in once a day and she still night nurses and won't that cause cavities and oh, my lord, she is going to need dentures by the time she is 4! I drive myself a little batty. It is all mental, but this is going to be the parenting chore that does me in!
