@periwinklebee: I started with one at night and one mid day, then moved up to two at bedtime and one mid day. my midwife said adjust the dose timing to when you feel worst.

@periwinklebee: I only took two at night. I never threw up, just nausea all day.

@periwinklebee: That's a big dose. I would try a smaller amount to start, otherwise it might completely knock you out (since it contains a sleeping aid). I think I took one pill in the morning and one in the evening and I was zonked for about a week and then my body got used to it. Bedtime might be good to start, since you need to sleep then anyway. :)

I got the prescription - yay! It's for a 120 pill, 30 day supply, with instructions to "take two at bedtime, one in the morning, and one in the evening, as needed." The nurse said to take that dosage, but I'm thinking I'd like to see if a lower dosage works first. Is two at bedtime the best place to start, and then add the other ones if needed? Or better to spread it out? I tend to feel worst morning and evening, and best in the middle of the afternoon. Thankfully the co-pay was affordable, so the cost isn't a worry.

@catlady: Thank you, this is super useful to know. My problem so far has also been more functioning with never-ending nausea than not being able to keep anything down....

I took it from about week 7 to week 16 during my last pregnancy. I never vomit (not even when sick) so it was for nausea. I had dealt with constant nausea during 3 previous first trimesters (including 2 that ended in miscarriage, but close to 2nd tri) and since I don't vomit, I had never even considered meds, but with my last pregnancy, the OB offered it so I gave it a try. Honestly I wish I had taken it during my other pregnancies. It really helped me function, especially since I had a 2 year old at the time too. Definitely recommend it if you are on the fence. Also, having had multiple losses, I was a little nervous but that pregnancy turned out fine.

@LBee: Thank you, this is good to know. I've been taking b6 since TTC to encourage progesterone production, but maybe I'll up the dosage until I can get the diclegis.

@Mrs. K: Thank you! I hope things are going well!

@periwinklebee: yeah for me it takes more than the two at night but hopefully your insurance doesn't give you trouble anyway. Mine didn't although the pharmacy had to order it. 🤞🤞The first trimester is rough!

I didn't really have a middle line between vomiting and nausea. I called for it the day I first vomited. It's been thoroughly tested and proven to be incredibly safe.

BUT, I couldn't function on Diclegis and ended up having to take the max dose of B6 and not the Unisom. I was falling asleep at work and didn't feel like I could care for my toddler. I say this because if you can't get the Diclegis quickly I would order some B6 for a temporary fix. You can throw in the unisom too -- the homemade recipe is on the blog from Mrs. Bee. If I didn't take the B6 I vomited multiple times a day.

@2littlepumpkins: @snarkybiochemist: @azjax: @Coral: @Banana330: Thank you guys - this is super helpful! I've been feeling pretty yuck (worst in the mornings and evenings) and am really glad to hear there's a good chance it could help. Now I just need the prescription to be called in... the nurse did warn that it often involves a fight with insurance. I'm super, super grateful to be pregnant - but it's like "hah hah, are we having fun yet?"

Congrats!!

I still take two at night and i'm 25 weeks. I've found it's best to keep taking it consistently. The first few days you'll be extra tired but then I find I adjust. When do you feel sickest. I was having a lot of late afternoon sickness so a early afternoon pill was my starting point.. if it's first thing in the morning night might be better. They help with the vomiting for sure but I was still really nauseous even on them (and still can be).

@periwinklebee: I started taking it at 8 weeks or so and I wish I had started sooner. It's perfectly safe, so there's no reason to suffer. As far as I know, diceglis helps with nausea and zofran helps with vomiting. It's going to work differently for each person but it took the edge off for me. It was still awful, but I could totally tell on the days I didn't take it.

My insurance gives me 60 pills per 20 day period and I used an online coupon (just Google it) to bring the cost down to $40. I take one in the morning, one mid-afternoon, and one in the evening. This stopped the vomiting and makes it so I get at least a few hours a day feeling normal. The nausea increased, so I take half a Unison before bed and that brought things back to a manageable state. I'm still on this regimen at 19w, but hopefully you'll get relief in the second trimester! I'd start ASAP; there are no pain and suffering awards in life so I don't believe there is any point being miserable unnecessarily!

I have been taking it since 5+6 to help take the edge off the nausea, it generally helps the present all day feeling of awfulness by giving me a few hrs mid day where I feel pretty much OK. I probably would have gotten more from it if I had increased my dosage but it was such a fight to get insurance to pay for the prescription I got which was written for 1 a day that I didn't want to push my luck by trying 2+ a day and then them not covering it.

I started it at about six and a half weeks. I would start it if you feel crappy. The only thing is that I was also dealing with the normal first trimester exhaustion and it definitely didn't help that. But I felt like I needed it and I'm glad it was/is there!

I'm 6+1 and my morning sickness has been getting progressively worse every day over the course of this week. I can still function ok, but I worry a bit if the trend continues...I asked for a diclegis prescription today, as I want to have it in case I really need it over the long weekend or during a work trip next week.

But I'm wondering, at what point is it worth it to take it? How sick were you before you felt it was necessary/useful? Will it only help with vomiting or also take the edge off of the nausea?
