@Torchwood: that might be location based. I'm in NYC and especially for part time, people aren't looking more than a month in advance.

@Torchwood: In my town it is almost impossible to find a nanny with more than a month's notice. So this may vary by location.

@SweetiePie: 2-3 weeks is not even close to my experience. Looking for a nanny position for an infant, most people would start looking while still pregnant (usually around 7mo), so months ahead of time. Super useful when I was unemployed right then, not 4 months from then. And even with older kids it was almost always well in advance.

That being said, for a part time situation where she'll still have work with the other family, a month seems vey reasonable.

Not the same but I had to take my full time nanny down to part time (long story short - she was part time and we shared her. Then I hired her full time because I decided to go back to work. But I hated the job and decided to SAH after all, so I needed to go back to part time nanny share).
I gave her a month notice. Basically I kept her on full time for a month so she could look for another family.
My point is, I think a month is fair. Gives her some time to look and I think most families will be looking for a nanny 2-4 weeks before the start.

How many hours per week does she nanny for you? I would think if less than 8 hours, a month (mostly because she will notice your packing regardless), 8-16 hours give her two months, 16 + give her two to three months? I don't think she would bail on you right away, but by giving her extra time she can take the time to find another good family rather than forced into taking whatever comes her way.

We are moving in a couple months, to a new city. I don't know when to tell our (very part-time) nanny that we're moving. I'm doing a part-time share with another family that she's been with for years, so she'll still be able to keep working for them if she wants, but I don't know how long I should wait to let her know.
