we started solids at 6.5 months, moved to 2 meals at 7.5, and added the third at around 10 months. I just went by his cues and whether he seemed extra hungry or not.

we didn't start having snacks until after he turned 1

@NurseMommy: Yes, you're correct! Xander wasn't really into solids until around 7 months. And he wasn't consistently eating 1 meal a day until 8 months. And then at 9 months was when he was consistently eating 2 meals. And we just started doing 3 meals last week at 9.5 months.

@Adira: am I correct that Xander didn't really start getting into solids until a bit later though? I seem to remember someone saying that, but not sure if it was you?

@mrsbookworm: that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for, thanks! At our six month appointment our doc was wanting her to start eating 4x/day and we had just started once, so I was like, ummmmmm, no!

@Greentea: thank you!

We JUST started doing a third meal at 9.5 months! No snacks yet. He didn't really seem like he needed it, but he did seem like he was getting hungrier earlier than normal in the morning, so we added breakfast (breakfast was the last meal we added).

We did once he seemed hungry for food a third time! He started getting cranky, we added a meal, and he was happy. We didn't change any nursing until he was 12m, when we droppd to 3x a day and replaced that session with a snack. Planning on adding another snack and dropping the other day session next month.

We started doing a 3rd meal at about 7 months. I introduced it and then just made sure it didn't affect how much he nursed. The lactation consultant at my baby group said at this age they should be nursing 5-7 times a day and you can keep adding solids as long as they don't drop below 5 nursing sessions. Hope this helps!

How do you know when it's time to transition your LO to another solid meal? A is almost 7 months and eating twice a day, doing really well, but she's still young and bf is going well, she bfs about 6x/day, so how do I know? How old was your LO when you started feeding 3 meals a day? What about snacks?
