@pui: Ah, ok, so it is still possible I won't ovulate until cd20, having a line doesn't matter at all until it is as dark or darker? I am charting my BBT but I got off to a rocky start since I realized my thermometer was off.

@Cole: LH is always somewhat present, so you're waiting for the test line to be as dark or darker than the control one. Yes you should test everyday until you get a distinct positive and then a negative. Are you also charting your BBT?

Wow! So I do have a pretty distinct line but it isn't darker than the control yet. Does that mean use them daily now for awhile?

I have been ovulating around CD20 recently, and I start using OPK's around CD13 just in case I have an earlier-than-expected O.

Thanks! I went ahead and took one and resigned myself to this cycle costing a small fortune  !

The first month I started using OPKs, I started on cycle day 8, which I think is what the box of the OPKs instructed. After a few months of using the OPKs, I don't start as early and tend to only use a few OPK sticks each month. I think its worth it the first few months to use the OPKs generously so that you can pin down your approximate O date. Better to start too early than too late, in my fairly inexperienced opinion.

What @Sunshine1810 said was the advice I got from my doctor too. Especially since you are trying to get a baseline I would start OPKs now just to make sure you don't miss an early ovulation.

The only thing that I would add is that sometimes you ovulate earlier or later than usual when you are coming off of birth control. My doctor recommended starting the OPK's early my first 2 months off, and then beginning to test closer to day 10+ after I got a better idea of when I typically ovulate.

It's very, very early for you to be ovulating since you are only CD6, so I don't think you should start testing now. If you only have your last cycle to go on, I suggest you start using OPKs around CD10-12. If you know that you regularly O around CD20, you can hold off testing until CD15 or so. Good luck!

I would use an OPK just so you know. Especially since you are not sure what your cycles will be like coming off of the IUD.

This is our first month trying and I am also just getting back into the groove of having an actual cycle after an iud. Before the iud I charted for a few months and I ovulated around day 20 of a 30/31 day cycle.

Currently, I am on day 6, my period was only 3 days long and I am now having stretchy, almost ewcm. So, should I use an opk? If we just dtd anyway does it make a difference? I am starting to chart so I at least will have that for future reference but right now it isn't doing me much good.

Thanks!
