@Zbug: The flatness was apparent but the bulges over the ears were the worst part :(

@Zbug: you're welcome! I think the two are similar so if you ordered the noggin nest, try that first! I saw results pretty fast (within 2 weeks I'd say). I used it wherever she was sleeping, so at that time it was the crib, swing, or rnp. It never affected her sleep at all!

@MsLipGloss: thanks. It's hard to know what to do when a solution to one problem seems to cause another!

@yerpie110: thank you for the link. I actually ordered the boppy noggin nest last night, but we might need to try that pillow. Where did you use it - crib, car seat, etc?

I was very concerned about my LO's flat head. It became noticeable to friends and strangers around 4 months, and my pediatrician just told me to move her head to the other side and do a lot of tummy time. Well, it kept getting worse and I am not a fan of the "wait and see if a problem develops" because by then, it's usually too late. My friend recommended me this pillow:

http://smile.amazon.com/BabyMoon-Pillow-Flat-Syndrome-Support/dp/B0049YNRCG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1392652842&sr=8-2&keywords=flat+head+pillow

I know you're not supposed to use pillows, but we got the okay from the pediatrician, and by the time we went back for an appointment at 5 months, the flatness had gone down considerably, and by 6 months, it was not noticeable any more. For us, I attribute the results ALLLLL to that pillow! Without it, she would sure have needed a helmet. I can't say if the results would generalize, but it worked for us.

Good luck!

@Zbug: I would pad the R&P more before I would give it up (my LO's reflux had to be surgically corrected, so I understand what you are dealing with!).

Thanks, everyone! We have tried moving her head to the side, but she just moves it right back. We are going to talk to the ped. Like I mentioned, I don't really think the flatness itself is all that severe, but the bumps above the ears are what prompted my concern. I guess we should give up the rock n play, but the ped actually suggested leaving her in it due to reflux.

I agree with @wheres_c:, get it checked early! Don't wait for your Ped to bring it up! My friend waited until the Ped mentioned her LO's flat head (baby is almost 1) and now her LO has to wear a helmet for a long time. It was so obviously flat that even DH and I even asked about it (we are super close friends) 3-4 months before there was any talk of a helmet.

Our pediatrician pointed it out when J was a few months old. We were told to move his head to the other side while he was sleeping (flat head was on the left side) so that it would balance it out. Problem was he would keep switching to the other side. We were also told to do lots of tummy time. Luckily, he did grow out of it and it was gone well before his 1st birthday. I would definitely ask the pediatrician because it is something you can correct fairly easily early on, but is harder to fix after they turn 1 I believe.

@Zbug: I've heard of that as a problem with the RNP - I would ask your pedi if you're worried! I'd try to babywear and hold as much as possible when not asleep in the RNP, too.

@Zbug: I was the same way between going back and forth from freaking to not worried to freaking.

Her head was REALLY flat at 3 months..,it got worse until 4 months then it got much much better. As her head control improved she started spending more time on her belly (didn't hate tummy time as much), in her bumbo, jumperoo etc. now at 5 months it has improved so much that I'm not worried about it . The dr saw it at its worst and wasn't concerned so it helped me get through month 4-5!

Thanks so much for sharing, ladies! I go back and forth between thinking it's not a big deal and being totally freaked out.

@wheres_c: thank you for sharing your story! Was the flatness very apparent? I don't think my LO's flatness is all that severe but the bit of bulge/bump is what is making me nervous.

Our lo was only two months when it was brought up by the ped. BUT the insurance didn't approve the helmet and she never got one, so she (just like me!) still has a rather large flat spot. We would have done more anyway if she was a boy but since we figured her hair would grow anyway, it hasn't been a big deal. Her hair is growing in and you almost can't tell now. :)

ETA And a neurologist said part of hers was genetic, so we had that going against us. The helmet would not have fixed the flattest part of her head.

Our LO was 3 months old, and was in a helmet to correct the flat head at 4 months old. I'd recommend seeing a specialist now if you're worried, because it's more easily (and cheaply) fixed now, vs waiting.

Here's a link to our story, feel free to wall me if you have any Q's.

Both of my kids had flat/weird shaped heads when they were infants.. The flatness fixed itself when they started flipping over and sleeping on their sides and bellies.

LO is just over four months and has a bit of a flat spot on the back of her head. Since this seems to be pretty common, I haven't really worried about it but now I am noticing a bit of bulge/bumps over her ears. Has anyone else experienced this? Maybe it's more serious than I thought? We were at the pediatrician two weeks ago, but he didn't mention anything. Due to reflux, she's still sleeping in her rock n play.

Any advice/experiences would be appreciated!

ETA any thoughts on the boppy noggin nest?
