I hate when people who sit in the middle / back of the plane put their bags in the front bins instead of the bins by their seat. DH and I always sit near the front because of his status (he travels for work weekly), and frequently I have to put our bag way behind us because people from the back of the plane used our bins instead of theirs.

My biggest one is crowding the gate way before your zone is called. Guess what- you have an assigned seat. Chill out and move back so the people who are supposed to be boarding now can actually board! And I don't think I deserve special treatment for flying with a baby or anything, but is it too much to ask that you actually move out of my way when I say excuse me, carrying my toddler and bag, to board when I'm supposed to? I had so many people just kind of look at me and shuffle their feet. Thanks.

@daisyfay: @ineebee: Dh and I disagree on the reclining seat thing. He thinks everyone should recline. I think the tiny increase in comfort from reclining MY seat is much less than the amount of discomfort from the person in front of me reclining into me. But I am eternally grateful that the people sitting in front of me while I had my toddler in my lap did not recline!

@ineebee: I'm surprised no one has mentioned reclining either! I am in favor of reclining; I have a lot of back issues and the pitch of the seat reclined is far more comfortable for me, especially for long flights. I expect that the person in front of me will recline also.

Maybe I'm antisocial but my main pet peeve is seatmates who just want to talk. I travel solo a lot and actually look forward to flights as uninterrupted reading time, and the last thing I want is to get stuck making small talk with some stranger for an indeterminate period of time.

Also maybe this is a fluke but I have been on more than one flight where someone near me painted their nails mid-flight. Come on!

The people that run up from the back of the plane before the door opens drive me nuts. Like you are the only person that wants to get off the plane.

On Southwest I will take a middle seat at the front of the plane over an aisle/window at the back. I want to get off the plane and have a chance at seeing my kid before she goes to sleep. If you want a chance to have an empty seat next to you don't sit in the first few rows. Most of the time the flight is completely booked anyway. That hardcore eyeroll and deep sign are totally unnecessary.

@Mrs. Coral: OMG yes. Like, have you flown in the last 10 years people? The rules are not new! We did the TSA pre-check thing and it makes security such a calmer process. Totally worth it if you travel more than even a couple times a year!

@lawbee11: That one I can't agree with. I DO go right before we board, every time. I just have a genuinely tiny bladder. I try to limit fluids when flying, but I'm not going to dehydrate myself to avoid inconveniencing someone for the few seconds it takes to let me up. I do try to always get an aisle seat, or take the middle and let DH have the aisle, but that's not always possible.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: In our experience, you want to get on the last second possible with a child! Usually, one of us goes on first to get situated and the other one stays off with our son until last call. Then we get on. Otherwise, it's a cluster.

I hate security the most, because I always feel rushed and my husband always gets extra screening.

- When people stuff overhead bins with things that they obviously can keep on their laps like jackets and small bags and don't even move them when the attendants announce that there's no more room for bags!
- When people talk really loudly across the aisle
- When people wait until it's their turn to get off the plane to put stuff away into their carry-on or put on their jacket. Let's go, people!!
- When people don't make any effort to protect others from their sicknesses.

I may have missed it, but I'm surprised no one has said anything about leaning back in your seat. I know people feel really strongly about this on both sides, so I thought someone might mention it! I'm undecided, but I follow DH's lead and don't do it unless the person behind me is sleeping.

I have sooo many pet peeves, but DH and I both travel frequently for work, as well as for personal travel, so I think I've seen them all. My biggest ones are:

- trying to board before your row/zone (I love it when the flight attendent turns them away!).
- congregating in front of the desk/lines and getting in the way of people trying to board their proper row/zone.
- people who roll their suitcases behind them down the aisles (pick it up people, and if it's too heavy, it should be checked!).
- women who can't lift their luggage up ahead (agree wij above post).
- people trying to take more than their alloted amount of carry-on.
- people trying to fit something that obviously won't go into the overhead storage and trying to slam the door closed.
- people putting their luggage in the first avail bin, instead of where their seat is.
- people who have no idea what needs to come off or out at security.

Basically, most people piss me off when traveling. But it's because it seems like so many people are either ignorant, clueless or inconsiderate.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: I do like to get up when they announce the zone before me. Yesterday, I got zone 2 (woohoo, thank you Frequent flyer card) and the person ahead of me apologized to the flight attendant for boarding early!?!? If you are not cleared to board, why are you in line?!? Step out of line and let others who can board board! It's not that hard to step to the side.

DH with his asthma does need extra time to board but he usually goes up and asks if he can board early.

Oh man....I always say I don't mind traveling, I just hate everyone else on the plane. I hate it when people line up to get on the plane, and their group isn't even near to being called. So when you're group is called you have to navigate through all those people. Man it's gonna be great when our LOs get here, and we can get on first!! lol Just thought of that...

I had a very very bad experience once and it all revolves around rude, inconsiderate people. :( I was traveling with my grandmother who is in her 80's people. We were on SW, so it was pick your own seat. Well I got on and picked a seat, unfortunately for some odd reason my gram was in the next batch of boarders. She was on the plane and I could see her, like she was 5-6 rows up just waiting to get by people to get to me so she could sit by me.. well sure enough some mid 40's man sat by me, I politely asked if he minded moving across the aisle b/c my gram (see right there-->) was coming and we'd like to sit by each other. He looked at me, didn't say anything and sat down. The flight attendant then came over and told me "no saving seats".... ughh, I almost got kicked off the plane, for real.

I hate when people hog the overhead space in rows not anywhere close to their own row (AKA, bin-space-stealers). If your bag is that big, get it gate-checked!

Also, the people who push ahead of their row to exit. Just like in school people, sometimes you have to wait in line and wait your turn.

If you're sitting by the aisle or by the window and I'm in the middle, you don't get both armrests. Not fair.

Also, just because you can't see the person behind you, doesn't mean they can't smell you when you decide to pass gas. Gross.

@bluestriped bee: Yep, that's exactly what I was going to say too! Drives me nuts! DH likes to sometimes say things, like "Oh, go ahead, you're obviously more important than the rest of us."
