Sometimes when I vent/complain, I just want sympathy or agreement! Sometimes you're just mad and need to get your emotions out and you don't need or even WANT advice on a situation - just a sympathetic ear! But other times, I'll want feedback. But I'm explicit and will ASK for advice - so in those cases, definitely give me advice! But if I'm just bitching about so-and-so and don't ask your opinion, just agree with me. :D ETA: I especially appreciate sympathy and agreement in situations where there's nothing that can be done. Like someone bumped into me at the store and I dropped my coffee and I'm just complaining about what a total a-hole that person was! I try to word everything I say carefully so I don't come across really uncaring or rude, but it hasn't seemed to matter.
