My baby was 14 weeks old when I had to leave for a week for a business trip. I fretted about it, but realized there are military moms out there who have to leave their young babies for much longer than I did and that I was lucky it was only a week! A girl from high school was deployed and had to leave her baby at 4 months old.

I haven't yet, but will at the end of July. LO will be 8 months old and I'm going on a women's retreat with ladies from my church. DH will be on baby-duty from when I leave Friday morning until Sunday evening. I'll probably drop LO at daycare and he'll pick her up Friday afternoon and take off Saturday from work. I'm excited to do this, get some girl time, and have a mommy-break.

A night away from LO? Haven't had to do this yet. A night away from DH? The night before our wedding 2 1/2 years ago =D LO is 11 months old and I have yet to take a trip without them. Obviously I do not get out much.

I haven't yet, but DH and I did spend one night away from DS at 12 weeks. We were just a 30 min drive away and my mom stayed overnight at our house (she's our primary caretaker while I'm at work too).

I have a few gfs who have gotten engaged recently and will have a couple of bach parties to attend. most in-town for only a night, but one may be out of state which would make it my first trip away from ds and dh. Probably in the fall right before DS turns 1. Too far away to know if I'll be ready.

@skipper2010: I am definetely one that needs a night of adult time for sure, I think I'm a better mom when I can still feel like me (which is an outgoing social butterfly.) I think I get the mommy guilt because both my sister's never left their children for years (my oldest niece's first sleepover was when she was 3, my youngest has yet to have one at 1 1/2 years.)

I haven't yet...I've been away without DH but DS was with me and DH and I had a doctors appointment out of state, but it was just a day trip and we were probably only away from DS for under 12 hours.

@eeh: I love to hear this! I'm glad we aren't the only couple who is okay with overnights. She has had 1 with each set of grandparents, and has a weekend planned in a month an 1/2 (we have an out of town adult only wedding DH is a groomsmen in.)

@LuLu Mom: I'm queen of the bad mama club! We left our 8 week old with grandparents (1 night for each set) for 3 days, 2 nights when she was 8 weeks old. I busted my tail to get enough milk pumped up and went and had a blast with my husband and not once did we ever regret going. Yes, we missed her but not in a way that made me want to turn the car around and cancel it.

I think it is so important for my daughter to spend time with her grandparents and develop a bond with them so we make it a priority to let them have a good deal of time with her on a regular basis. My daughter is 6 months old and she has stayed with my inlaws overnight twice and with my parents 6 or 7 times. They love it, she loves it, we love it. It's win win every way I look at it.

@LuLu Mom: Don't feel like a bad momma! I hope that when my baby is born (August) I can be like you. I believe in balancing your life so that not only can you be a good mom, but still be a good friend, wife, daughter, etc...I believe in date nights and alone time. My sisters and I (all older with kids) went on a girls weekend trip over the summer while their husbands stayed home with the kids, and sure they missed them, but they had the BEST time and went home feeling so relaxed and uplifted! We now plan on doing a girls weekend annually, and I hope once I have the baby I won't have too much separation anxiety. :)

@LuLu Mom: You're not a bad Mama! I was worried about the same thing, but honestly, time away from kids isn't a terrible thing. My husband and I have opposite work schedules and almost never see each other during the week, and we're trying to raise twins. If we go away for the night, (like you said, maybe a total of 14-15 hours away from themtotal? ), it's a GOOD thing. It's way harder on us than the babies!

These threads make me feel like a bad momma, I love my child more than anything but I am okay with having a night away. I had a girl's sleepover at my house over Christmas and after showing off the baby, DH and DD went and stayed with his parent's for the evening and I got to enjoy my friends & sleep in. It was wonderul and refreshing, she would have been 3 months old. They came back late morning, so they were gone maybe 14 hours?

That was the only night they have both been away from me, although a friend and I have talked about a weekend in Miami in August, so she will be 9 months old, but I'm not sure if I can handle 3-4 days away from both!

We're planning to spend the night at a hotel for our anniversary next month when our LO's are 4 months old. It seemed like a good idea when we made the reservation before they were born. It still sounds heavenly, (a full night of sleep and alone time with my DH would be aaaaaaawesome), but I will, most likely, chicken out.

I had to do an overnight work trip when she was 7 months. But if not for that, it probably wouldn't have been until she was 16 months when my girlfriends and I are planning a weekend away.

Dh and I took an overnight vacation away from lo as a Chanukah gift for eachother when lo was 17 months. I have to say..... We had fun but I'm not in a rush to do it again.

I haven't taken a girls trip. I don't see myself doing that for awhile. I just miss lo too much!

I don't think ever, lol. Well, ds goes to his dad's every other weekend, but dh is here the whole time. I haven't been alone in a home in forever...probably before dh and I moved in together, but even then I lived with my parents.

My girlfriends are planning a 3-day weekend in Boston in July. It would mean a flight and hotel stay for me, away from my daughter and husband. I think (for me) that will be too soon. I'm not sure what our breastfeeing relationship will be at that point (13 months) and I'm not sure I'll be ready to leave her by then, for that long.

When was the first time you went away without your husband and your baby(ies)?
