We drove an extra half hour because she really fought to start the nap. We were at a car show 30 mins away from our house. We left at naptime and DS immediately fell asleep in the car. The most recent time went to a Christmas event that was 1 hour away. We went early so we didn't have to cut his nap short and sat in the car for an extra 45 minutes once we got there so he could get his full nap in. Naps are so important to EVERYONE's happiness! A few months back tho, DH winged it and transferred DS from a car nap to his crib and he went right back to sleep! :) So thankfully even if he falls asleep in the car, we RARELY have to stay in there waiting, unless he falls asleep in between different places/outings.
