My daughter is playing with mine right now. Stupid, I know. I won't give her my engagement ring, but if she lost the wedding ring, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

This is going to be really different for most women whose rings have a diamond or other gemstone, versus the plain bands most men wear. Gemstones, diamonds in particular, really should come off your finger as soon as you get home. They need light, and any little bits of stuff that get in there block the light and make the ring look dingy. Never wear your ring in water, because stones come loose all the time and you'll never find them in water - and never wear them when cooking, cleaning, putting on lotion, hair product, anything!

I have two Waterford crystal ring holders I received as wedding/bridal shower presents, and my rings are on those 100% of the time when I'm at home. No chance of them getting misplaced that way. I'd be very nervous if I didn't have those designated places for them.

My husband, on the other hand, wears a platinum band that's worth as much as my rings are, but he wears it 24/7/365. I think he's taken it off like a few times in the two years we've been married. He'd definitely be prone to lose it if he put it down somewhere.

I take mine off whenever I'm home, they have a special box in the same spot where they stay. Even though mine isn't that high set, it catches on our dog's hair.. material if I"m sewing.. and I just feel better if it's in a cozy spot when I'm doing stuff around the house.

@hilsy85: that was my husband's prediction!! He always tells me to dry my finger really well when I wash my hands.

I think mine is a channel set too and if I take it off and look in the back, there are so many grooves and crevices. Gunk get's stuck in there all the time and I'm always picking it out.

@Coco Bee: I have this too!! It's called "wedding ring dermatitis" (seriously, it's a real thing!) and it's caused by moisture getting trapped under the ring. Apparently it's more common with channel set rings (not sure what you have, but both my rings are channel set). I think for me, since my fingers have been bigger, there's less room for moisture to escape. It's gotten better since I"ve kept my rings off over the last week or so.

I never take it off!!

I did have to take it off for a week in June because my finger developed some weird rash underneath the ring. I actually am getting it again, so I really wonder if my ring is harboring some type of fungus or bacteria. gross. I have gotten it professionally cleaned (in July) so it's weird that it's doing that again.

I have chubby preggo fingers right now so can't wear my rings at all... but when I could I used to take it off every night to let my finger breathe... DH is the same, he's a physio so has to take it off many times through the day so he doesn't hurt patients while he treats them.

Mine has not been on in about three days :( It fits on my finger, but it's getting really painful to push it over my knuckle. So it's sitting in it's box for now. Normally, I would take it off while washing dishes or before showering/bed.

DH takes his off when he lifts weights in the morning and the other day our cat for it and was playing with it around the basement! Needless to say, he's going to be more careful with it from now on lol

@mrbee: don't feel too bad about it going missing! It's happened to the best of us. DH's ring had fallen off in bed while he's sleeping. My engagement ring has a 6 prong setting that would catch in my hair in the shower and pave diamonds on the band, I knocked a couple of stones out of it so I was trying to be more careful & started taking it off to do things, took my rings off to shower & put them on a little table between the bedroom & bathroom, well when I came out the cat was on the table, the wedding band was on the edge & the engagement ring was gone! He likes to throw things off the table : ( I know it has to be somewhere, but I haven't found it yet! I just wear my wedding band.
