We started ours out training with the kids at his daycare. They would take him every hour and make him "try". That was at 2.5. We thought since he was doing in regularly there that it would be easy at home. We did pull ups around 3 at home. That was a bad idea. He would get to playing and just go in them since to him
They probably still felt like a diaper. Finally after a few months of that, we went cold turkey right to little undies. He had a few accidents but he felt it and he didn't like it. After that it got easier and he learned his cues. The most important thing I learned is that he would do it when he was ready and on his own time. I think we were fully potty trained at 3.5. He's 5 now and occasionally he has an accident at night but it's few and far between.

@Applesandbananas: my rationale for going straight to underwear was that I didn't want him to think it was ok to pee in a pull up just because he could. I sent him to school in underwear the very first week we were training and he did well. One pee accident the first day and one poo accident the second day. After that there was (and is) still an ocession all accident, but he caught on fast.

@Applesandbananas: The Gerber padded training underwear are what we used. They're kind of expensive (for underwear), but they absorb *some* pee, which makes accidents slightly less of a mess. I ordered them from Target.

My son was 2.5 when we trained. He wasn't interested at all and we kind of forced it on him. I wanted to take advantage of the fact that it was summer and he could run around naked at home or we could find a bush outside if necessary. We did the 3 day method and it worked the first day for pee! We gave M&MS as a reward. Daycare was on board and had us bring a potty chair to use there and they really encouraged him to go. Poop took about 2 weeks. He knew he shouldn't do it in his underwear, but would wait until we put a diaper on him for naps or night. After that, we didn't do any specific night training. After about a month after the initial potty training, he started waking up dry, and after about 2-3 months, we no longer used diapers at night.

As for gear, we had both the Baby Bjorn potty chair and toilet trainer. After awhile he really just used the toilet trainer. We also never did pull ups or training pants, just regular underwear.

We did 'toilet learning', so it took a while. I introduced the standalone potty around 18 mos by just having him sit there whenever he would/it was convenient. I slowly moved it into the bathroom and had him sit there with me when I went. He never really took to the potty, but once we moved to the seat on the toilet, he really started to get it. I left him pants-less as often as possible when we were home and then once he was getting to the toilet on time, we did underwear. Underwear is key! We did 'travel diapers' for excursions where it would have been a problem to have an accident and 'night diapers' for sleeping, but we didn't use them otherwise.

Your LO sounds like he's good to go! My son never took off his clothes before we started with the potty, either. I had to help him for a while. He was reliably making it to the toilet a little after 2.5.

DS is 2 and at his daycare, they have a kid-sized bathroom that connects his room (18-24m, he's about to move up to the next room when there's space) to another room (24-36m) and a lot of the kids that just moved up to the 24-36m room from his room were potty trained or working on it... And they were all girls lol. I've always heard boys take more time but his daycare teacher told me that she'd be willing to work with him whenever I wanted to start potty training. I kind of thought I'd wait until closer to 3, but it seems like a lot of the kids, even the boys, in the 24-36m are potty trained.

So if your boy is potty trained, please tell me all about it! When did you start? What readiness signs did he show? Do you SAH/WOH, was he in a center/in-home/nanny/familycare/other? How long did it take? What were your tactics? Any other advice?

2 seems little for it but he wakes with dry or nearly dry diapers, has dry diapers for several hours through the day, is interested in the bathroom, especially the kid-sized bathroom at school, and it's really easy to tell when he's pooping. The one thing I'm worried about is he hasn't really tried to take his clothes off, which he'd obviously need to be able to pull his pants down!

Any thoughts/advice/gear recs you have would be wonderful!
