LO1 had his first word around 14 months, I think, and not much more until 18 months. Then his expressive language exploded; I think he's definitely caught up at 2.5, if not a bit advanced. But he was at the point that he was going to be evaluated at 18 months if he didn't get some words.

LO2 is 13 months and just started consistently saying words in the past month. She now has 10 or so.

Have you talked with you ped. about it? They'll probably have enough perspective to know if there is a concern at this point, or to give you some guidelines about what to pay attention to going forward.

Is it so bad that DD is only 15 mo and I didn't record it anywhere when her first word was?! It was early though... I have a video of her at 9 months saying mama!

Around 10 months she started with
"Kitty (kee-kee)", followed by "lights" and then "button". Since she was a tiny newborn she has been entranced by lights.
She's nearly 1 year now and mimics and points but no mama or dada. She does things her way apparently.

At 10 months she had "hi", "dada" and "uh-oh" consistently.

Mine was around 10 months or so, but then he "lost" all of those words and was somewhat delayed when it came to talking. However, when he finally did start talking it was a language explosion! I would not worry too much; it seems babies all differ so much on this!

By 9 months mama became really distinct. Before that it was mamamama babble. @Charm54: I've been trying to teach him dada, but he is like your daughter, and not having it!

Dada, around 11 months - I would tell her "say mama!" and she would get a mischevious grin and shout "DADA" then proceed to laugh her head off :silly:

LO1 was right before he turned one. LO2 was at 8 months. At first I thought she was just imitating, but she was repeating it consistently in the right context.

I'm getting anxious that DD2 really hasn't said anything, she's a babbler and forms words, but they are not associated with anything. When did your LO say their first word(s)?
