My daughter is almost 12 months and I feel like she just started to do this! But she doesn't wake up at night just from the paci falling out (and giving it back to her doesn't get her to go back to sleep either!). For a long time she'd grab it but just chew on the other side too... Hopefully it will be quicker for you!

@Portboston: oh wow, that is awesome! Maybe I should have him practice more during day? He already uses a wubbanub, it still falls out a lot and he freaks

@LindsayLou: that's great!! I would love it if he could do it soon- def going to give it to him more to play with during day

@bluestriped bee: wow that is genius!! What a good idea...DS sleeps on his side so I wonder if they would still work?

Wubbabubs? I thought they were too light so I found an etsy seller that attaches pacifiers to beanie babies. They are weighted so I'm able to prop the pacifier into their mouth. On etsy they are like $10.99 so about the same as a wubbanub.

My 5.5 month enjoys playing with her pacifier more than sucking on it. So she pulls it out, chews on it, puts it back in, pulls it out, looks at it, etc. She learned to put it back in, at least some of the time, about 3 weeks ago.

LO doesn't use a paci but there was a baby in our yoga class that could put her paci back in at 4.5 months. Her mom said they had to teach her how to do it, it did not happen organically. You could also try getting a wubba nub and laying the animal on his chest. It may be easier for him to locate it that way.

@NovBaby1112: I should also point out, unfortunately, that was just about the time she also figured out she enjoyed chucking it out of the crib clear across the room.

I think it was right about the 6 month mark when she figured out how to replace it herself. We definitely sleep trained prior to that, but even after we sleep trained, we still allowed ourselves to go in 1-2x to replace the pacifier.

DS is 4 months and needs his paci to go to sleep for naps and night, and I think it's really starting to affect his sleep. He wakes up if it falls out, and obviously cant put it back in yet, so I'm up a lot at night putting it back in.

What age was your LO able to put it back in? How did you deal with it in the meantime if your LO woke up without it?? Did you have to sleep train or just rode it out until they were able to do it themselves?
