Our doc said at 6 months it was fine to do it since he was starting solids. We just stopped cold turkey and he was fine. Still spitting up a ton, but didn't seem bothered by it. Maybe wait a bit and try again?

We tried at 12 months and it didn't work. The doctor advised waiting another 3 months before trying again and we had no problems at 15 months.

@IRunForFun: yeah it took a while for us. I wouldn't be too worried if the baby is still on meds.

We did it shortly after the 9mo visit. We were pretty confident it would be ok because LO started thinking it was fun/funny to be upside down (rather than behaving like he was being tortured). We put off taping down until a week where it was less crucial to get any sleep, but it was totally uneventful.

@Ajsmommy: Awwww poor little guy. Based on what I'm seeing with DD no way she'll be ready to try weaning again 6 weeks after restarting the meds. That would be in 3 weeks and considering we have to up the dose...fingers crossed for 9 months. Good luck to you and DS!

@MrsADS: Aww. I know some kids it does take longer for them to outgrow it. My pedi actually said her 3 year old is still on meds.

My son just turned 2 and is still on 10mg of Nexium in the morning and 10mg at night :crying: We have attempted to lessen the dose unsuccessfully. He sees a pediatric GI. I am concerned about it but not sure what else to do at this point.

Edit: he was on 20mg twice a day, so we have gotten him down to 10mg twice a day as he has gotten older.

We literally just had ds's 6 mos appt Saturday and were told to stop his reflux meds. The next four nights were miserable so I called and we started meds again and the last two nights have been so much better. Our ped said most babies can be weaned between 6-9 mos. We are supposed to try again in 6-7 weeks

@Eko: Interesting, thanks! She's still not very interested in solids at all. Hopefully as she starts eating more it'll help. 9 months was going to be our next goal for weaning.

@jape14: Thanks! She sits up pretty well, but sitting up actually seems to make her spit up a lot. Weird.

We weaned off around 7-7.5 months. Once DS was sitting up full time, the reflux improved pretty rapidly.

I was at 9 or 10 months. Not until he started eating more solids. My son ate sooo much that he needed a more solid food then formula diet before being weaned. We didn't have a problem taking him off.

LO is 7 months and has been on Prilosec since she was 3 months. After her 6 month well visit the doctor said we could try weaning her off of it, but it didn't go well. All of her reflux symptoms came back and she was pretty miserable. We put her back on at the original dose and it worked for a while, but now she's having reflux symptoms again. The pediatrician said as she gains weight the dosage may become ineffective and that we should increase it. We are going to do it because obviously we don't want her to be miserable, but I'm starting to get concerned about long term side effects and such. It seems like so many babies are weaned by 6 months.

Anyone have experience going longer?
