I feel your pain. Yesterday, my mom called me to ask if we were contagious before we went to her house. I said, yes, my son and I have colds. She wondered if we should stay home. I told her that in that case, I’d see her in May. :silly:

@periwinklebee: I am so sorry that happened with your son! How scary! Hope you’re able to get his asthma under control. I’m glad daycare took action when they noticed he was having trouble.

@Shantuck: I just started my kids on probiotics because they constipated but maybe it will help both. We also do elderberry syrup almost every day- I had fallen out of the habit over Christmas and everyone was sick. Back on that too!

@bhbee: oh no, ugh... poor guy, I'm so sorry to hear he recovered from the flu for his party just in time to be hit by pneumonia. I am going to wall you about asthma - I am a bit anxious about how to manage it, ugh...

@Foodnerd81: So much flu... LO was in the ER twice and urgent care once the past few days, and I keep expecting the flu to hit any minute given I'm sure half the people there were flu cases, ughhhhhh... And yes to not wanting to go out, just another opportunity to catch germs...

I read somewhere that gut health is super important for immunity so I just started my kids on probiotics. I have no idea if it will help but we've been through the wringer the past few years will illness and I'm desperate. I'm also pregnant and the week before Christmas DH had the flu, DD had a puking stomach virus, and DS had a cold. I managed to avoid all of those miraculously but am desperately trying anything and everything to keep everyone well. I'll report back!

Right there with you (though it sounds like you might have it even worse). Someone has been sick almost constantly since before Christmas. Like you I SAH and I’m getting so stir crazy being home. And I’m almost afraid to go out places when we are all well because I’m afraid we’ll get sick again!

Once everyone is healthy, the best way for me to break the screen time habit is just be out of the house and busy so they aren’t constantly asking for it. But see above about not wanting to go places and pick up more germs!

This has been the worst winter I can ever remember for me and my friends. And I’ve definitely never heard of so many flu cases- though luckily for most of my friends it has been fairly mild cases.

We had 2 weeks of gastro and ear infections and colds over Christmas and it’s sucks. Each year has gotten better for the 5yo but now the 17mo is in the middle of it. My olders first year+ in daycare was a nightmare and he had a hospitalization when he was 2. My anxiety was so bad I had to see a therapist. So, hang in there, we’re already in February so hopefully it will start to taper soon. I keep reminding myself all I can do is help them eat well, sleep well, give meds and cuddles and we are all doing the best we can. And for the screen time, we had to hide the iPad and Roku remote :silly:

It sucks! But hang in there, it will get better.

DS1 got a chest infection just before Halloween and then there was someone constantly sick until the beginning of December when DS2 started major teething and got 5 teeth that month. We got through most of January healthy but it is starting again.

Get out of the house when you can but otherwise just try and get through. It’s hard when they are little and sick.

DH is at the pediatrician with DS right now! He is 16 months and has had a runny nose, coughing and eye gunk for weeks now. He has had congestion of some sort since mid-December.

It has not improved sine our last doctors visit a few weeks ago (except for the eyes thanks to drops). The doctor was on the fence last visit about antibiotics but I am pushing for them now to see if they help. Little dude (and us) needs some relief. I forgot about this stage but honestly think DS #2 has been more sick than his older brother ever was.

It does get better but it’s miserable in the meantime. Flu has been awful around here along with all the usual stuff. My now 5 year old had a high fever that seemed to be Fifth Disease (rash later) on Christmas Eve - couldn’t even stay up to put out cookies for Santa - then had flu A on his actual bday and resultant pneumonia causing us to cancel his party later that week. That’s a bad run though, overall it’s much better than when he was 0-3. My oldest definitely gets sick so much less now! Hugs in the meantime ... as for the tv I just try to return to normal and not sweat it.

You're not alone, it's rough... Last winter was really rough for us, Jan-Feb were constant; things got substantially better by mid-May and LO was hardly sick over the summer...Hang in there! It really sucks:-(

My older LO was sick for his birthday recently as well, I felt so bad because I have a newborn so I couldn't spend as much time comforting him as I wanted, since I had to keep her quarantined from him. And last week he had an ambulance ride from daycare to the ER because he was having trouble breathing (they thought anaphylactic reaction, doctor thought choking, I suspect asthma), and then we were back to the ER a couple of days later, that time confirmed asthma. Ugh...

I keep a line a day journal and all last winter I have written day after day of having to cancel plans with friends because my kids or someone else's kids got sick. I did not believe people when they said it gets better as they get older. However, this winter they are 5.5 and 3 and have definitely gotten sick less. Those first few winters of constant illness with little kids are incredibly hard!

The subject line is rhetorical, I'm just venting. A month ago my 6 month old got a fever and threw up and my kids (there are three of them) have been sick nonstop since then. Viruses with extended, high fevers (7+ days), runny noses, horrible coughs (not the flu, probably rsv says the pediatrician) which translated into pink eye and multiple ear infections. We had a 48 our reprieve last weekend then my 4yo started vomiting Monday morning. On Wednesday my infant vomited. This past weekend everyone seemed healthy but my 2yo seemed "off" yesterday (it was his bday!). Woke up from his nap with a fever, a super runny nose and a cough back in full force. Today the baby had a fever, threw up, runny nose, cough. They finished antibiotics for their ears a few days ago so I am hoping it didn't clear up and that they just need another round....not that it's a whole new virus...especially since we had a bday party yesterday. But this has basically been going on for a month nonstop. I SAH, which is great bc otherwise we'd be burning our PTO, but bad bc I am honestly going insane. I have become crazy about taking their temperature and I have more anxiety than I have had in years. DH keeps telling me to "take it one day at a time" and if he says that one more time I am probably going to punch him in the face. I just want my happy, healthy kids back! Anyone else dealing with a ton of sickness this winter?

Also, how do I detox them off the massive amount of TV they have watched over the past month???

end rant.
