So an update: it hit me HARD on Friday and got better every day. I felt like a million bucks today and took full advantage- went on a nice run, tons of errands, things around the house without laying in the fetal position and was nice to my son!
I think that's how it's gonna be- just waves of it. That's how it was with DS, it just ended a whole month sooner.

Also: I did start the Makena (progesterone) injections but after my nausea was bad Friday. I heard they can make nausea worse though. Oh and they give me wicked diarrhea. So that's fun.

@bhbee: Yes to acide reflux. I felt that way into 2nd tri and what really helped me was Prilosec!

I was on Prilosec throughout the 2nd and 3rd tri and had to be really careful about what I ate even on the meds but my nausea was definitely reflux related. And I had never experienced it before pregnancy.

Oh and regarding the heartburn, I also had heartburn with he last pregnancy. I took Zantac but I still had issues with nausea. But it could have been a factor so I'd look into it anyway. Good luck!

My last pregnancy it went past 20 weeks, maybe like 22-24? I feel for you, it's so hard! It hadn't been that bad previously, so even though I knew it could last a long time I was taken a little by surprise.

@pachamama: agree it can just be nausea. I had more of the stomach pain (although still not what I had previously felt as heartburn - more like straight pain vs burning) early on. In third tri it was 100% nausea ... like I asked my ob why the nausea was so awful again and she said almost without doubt it’s heartburn. I’d say it’s worth a shot! Most of the meds you need a few consistent days to see a difference. But if you get ahead of it now, might prevent it getting worse in third tri also as your stomach gets more squished.

@pachamama: My heartburn/GERD manifested much like @snarkybiochemist: described hers. I always felt like I was going to puke any minute, but never did. I had the horrid barking cough because of it, but cleared it up in a week and the Prilosec kept it in check along with the nausea.

@pachamama: Mine is often nausea with some shortness of breath thrown in for good measure. I very rarely feel the burning sensation or burp up acid like so many. I tend to feel like my stomach is churning and I'm 2 min away from puking

@Mrsbells: I also hate taking meds. I took a tylenol the other day and agonized and googled for hours. You should have seen what a stink I put up about taking Makena to prevent preterm labor.
If tomorrow is still bad, I'll call my doctor, but all I get is nurses and, when I told her last week, she already suggested Bonjesta and "six small meals a day"

I second @caitcat: on the unisom/b6 combo. One of my best friends had terrible nausea and that's what her OB recommended and it made a world of difference. Hopefully you get to feeling better soon.

I also had constant nausea, but it turned out to be GERD, so I was on Prilosec from 12 weeks on and it helped a ton too! I had to an advair inhaler and tesslon pearls to get rid of the nasty cough from the stomach acid getting my esophagus, but that was for only a week.

Echoing acid reflux from what you describe. I know it sucks to take meds but most of them are approved and it’s so worth it to be able to function. PPIs usually work the best if it’s really bad. Tums may not because you need to get ahead of it.

I had it worst with this third baby and had to stay on Prevacid from first tri to the end. I got some relief around 16w from the hormonal nausea, but couldn’t miss even a dose of Prevacid without paying for it. Third tri was pretty awful even with the Prevacid and I mostly ate granola bars and string cheese, but what can you do! I felt like I barely ate and still had an almost 9 lb baby so they will take what they need from you, just makes it harder for you!

Hugs because it’s so hard to feel that way!

@pachamama: Yes, I think I just used a walmart brand unisom. I seem to remember there were two varieties (different active ingredients) and I got the wrong one first. I have no idea if it actually works this way or not, but I felt like I acclimated or became desensitized to the drowsiness after a while. I'd been worried about being able to function if I was too sleepy, but then I had to remember I wasn't exactly functioning well in the first place. :)

I'll also echo the advice on the acid reflux issues. I forgot I took zantac in conjunction with the unisom/b6!

I'd start diclegis or unisom/b6, I don't think it's dumb to start now. It's not like you're starting a new job and there's any investment here, you can just take it for a few days and not overthink it; if it helps you even a little you'll be able to function much better. I say this at almost 39 weeks--my nausea went away at 12 weeks and then came back around 34 weeks, and the pill combo for me isn't really working, I think because it's more of a physical "my stomach is between my boobs" combined with terrible acid reflux problem. I just encourage you to take it because I wish I could! ETA saw your post above--if the Tums don't work, don't be afraid to take pepcid ac, it's a lifesaver.

@snarkybiochemist: the nausea really flares up about 20 minutes after I eat, without fail. Ill try Tums, maybe it's reflux? It's basically traumatic to eat so I've been eating a lot less lately. Probably not good.
@caitcat: did you just buy OTC unison? I am taking by, doesnt seem to help as of now. I'm a little weary of being drowsy, but at this point I'm not sure I care.
@cyntist: solidarity girl. Mine was definitely worst from 9 through 11w. I have very good days and days where I feel like I'm back at that peak! Oh, and diarrhea all the time. Secondary pregnancy symptoms just drag on I think. Wahhhhh

I finished my diclegis around 19 weeks but took prevacid throughout my 2nd and 3rd trimesters because my acid reflux gave me nausea and I couldn't take enough tums to make it better. It might be worth seeing if Tums help and then talking to your doctor about prevacid or the like.

So sorry you're still not feeling well! I never had that magical relief in the second trimester with either of my pregnancies. I remember feeling like would last forever.

With my second baby, I took Unisom/B6 to help all through my second trimester. I think I stopped at some point early in my third trimester, though I don't remember for sure. It wasn't a miracle fix, but I think (maybe?) it took an edge off sometimes. Or at least at night, it made me fall asleep more quickly - and sleep was about the only time I felt well!

I don't want to whine as I'm so glad I'm pregnant and things look good so far with baby, but I'm 18 weeks and then nausea is back in full force. It's preventing me from functioning normally and I'm just so sick of it. My appetite and eating habits are terrible. I'm in my bed taking a nap and its 7 a.m. (I'm pregnant with #2 fwiw.) I have so much to do today and every single hour or so I get bad nausea for 20 minutes or so. I've only had a few days of relief since 6w.

My usual tricks have not worked. Small meals, crackers, ginger ale, ginger chews, naps, even exercise isn't staving the nausea off like it did with my other 2 pregnancies. Nothing has worked. Tips or commiseration? Is this normal? Seems dumb to start diclegis now.
