The goofball mutt in my avatar is pretty happy being an only dog. Whenever other dogs are around, he prefers to socialize with humans, because humans are the source of treats. He's almost 11 but healthy so we very much hope he is with us long enough for c to remember him. After he passes, we will wait until the kids are old enough to want another dog and to have some responsibilities (nothing major just enough to teach them that they need to help if they want a pet). So... At least five more years I think.
