August I think? I don't see the point in waiting if you know when you're going and it is over Christmas, prices only get higher as you get closer! </p> <p>This year Christmas is at my parents' house so that's easy-- 2 hr drive. Thanksgiving is at our house, which I love because I don't have to go anywhere or find pet sitters! </p> <p>We've actually already sort of discussed NEXT Christmas (how's that for planning ahead?! lol). Just because that will be our first Christmas with a baby and it is supposed to be my MIL's year but we have no idea how/if we can really stay with her if we have a baby. She doesn't have enough bedrooms for people so we are generally on an air mattress on the living room floor. Not sure I'm willing to do that with a baby honestly. We're talking about seeing if we can maybe convince her to come to us for Christmas next year instead. Fly out December 22nd, home the 28th. I haven't been home for Christmas since I met DH -we fly to his home province, then drive 2 hours to his hometown to be with his family he sees a couple times of year at best.</p> <p>We think this will be our last one away. But, his dad kind of sucks so we only split the time between my family and his mom/brothers. I thought about flying Christmas day at some point-- less full flights and with the time difference, it's not that bad. My family is big on Christmas Eve anyway so it would work in that sense, but I feel bad for kids missing a chunk of Christmas due to flying. Per the wonderful advice I got on here, we are flying cross country to see DH's side this year, when LO is 5 months old, and we'll drive the 5 hours to my family next year when she is 17 months. </p> <p>And since I like to plan and get ahead of myself, I'm already thinking about our travel arrangements-- we'll probably rent a house where everyone can stay together, plus of course book flights. I know it's early but now it's my latest thing to research while I'm nursing! </p> <p>When do you make plans? Do you already know who you will be visiting or where you will be going? </p>
