Straight to kindergarten. LO's daycare is preschool-ish, plus there's no way I'm giving up her spot to send her to preschool.

My 9 month old and 2 year old go to an actual preschool even though I call it daycare. They really do a fabulous job. I feel like the 2 year old room is like a pre-k room. They do arts and crafts but also gym time and music time. They do a lot of reading and learning...he knows the alphabet perfectly and recognizes all of his letters. He can identify colors, shapes and numbers 0-10 in English and in Spanish. I was talking to him the other day and he recited the 7 days of the week perfectly. I have been very happy with his preschool so far!

LO started the day she turned 2. She was already potty trained and transitioned well. I definitely think preschool is great in terms of academics and social development but I miss my time with LO.

Probably fall 2016. She'll be 3, turning 4, but that means 2 years of preschool before K. She's in a 1 morning a week program now at 22 months.

Hopefully next fall at 2.5, there is a local co-op preschool that offers 2 classes a week in the mornings for 2.5-3 year olds. My LO talks a lot and asks about school, so I think she will be ready!

We are going through the application process right now for the fall of 2015, when he is 2 yrs 11 months. Most schools around here start at 2, but have cut offs of sept. 1st or earlier (he's an october baby).

My son started at 2.5 and my daughter started at 2. It has been very beneficial for both of them. That experience helped my son be ready for his "observation" (entrance exam type thing) which got him into a very competitive school program. My daughter just started preschool and she loves it. I think for her the social aspect will be very beneficial as she's not used to NOT getting her way.

DD1 is in daycare and I'm not sure I will put her in U PreK because it's only a half day program. With both of us WOH FT I'm not sure that's feasible. So she'll likely go straight to kindergarten.

My current plan is 4 and a half so she will attend a year before she starts Kindergarten. Selfishly, that's so I can keep her at the same affordable daycare as (yet-to-be-born) LO2 as long as possible.

Maybe I'm being naïve and she won't be able to get a spot at 4. Or she might get bored with daycare by 4 depending on the mix of the kids at that point. I didn't know about one day a week programs. That might be the best solution for us to start pre-K without breaking the bank and killing ourselves with pick-up/drop-off.

He started preschool this past September, just before he turned 2 (it's a class for 2-3.5 year olds, and we have him going 3 days a week in the afternoon). Even though he was really very young when he started, we're SO glad we did it - he absolutely loves it, and he's learned so much. We're going to do 5 days a week next year, when he'll be 3.

We just started when my son turned 2. It was the only real preschool program I could find (not just a daycare called a preschool.) I really love it, so we're lucky! He goes two days a week for three hours, but not summers. I wanted to start him before LO2 is born so that he doesn't feel like he's shipped off somewhere when Mommy hangs out with his brother or sister. I'm loving it so far!

He is by far the youngest in the class, since most of them started in September, but I love the exposure to slightly older kids, and he seems to as well!

The fall before he turns 4, we may switch to a cooperative pre-school that I actually attended, but they follow the school year guidelines for age, so if we waited, he couldn't go to preschool until he's almost 4!

@Bao: That is really surprising. In her program, they just ask that you let them know when your child is potty trained and if they are, they ask if they need to use the bathroom instead of checking their diaper. They also ask that they wear pull ups.

My son is going to start a 2 day "preschool" in September next year - he'll be about 25 months. It's only on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9-12. I think it will be good for him to be around other kids and adults.

The program I'm looking into doesnt require for them to be potty trained.

He will most definitely go to Pre-K or some kind of preschool before kindergarten. Kindergarten is a lot more intense than it was when we were kids so I want him to at least be accustomed to going to school and a routine of nothing else.

She is only 16 months now, but I think she will start actual preschool when she turns three. Her birthday is right before the cutoff so she will always be the youngest in her class. We are starting a preschool type class tomorrow, but it's just an hour, once a week, and I stay.

That could all change next year but for now I don't think she will need a 2s class. Since I SAH with her, I do think it will be good for her at 3.
