They do them at 41 weeks unless medically necessary. I think if you wanted to go passed 41 they would let you do 42 but I'm not sure about that. I think c sections are 39 weeks.

I was induced at 40 weeks exactly for hbp but they will induce at 41 if you haven't gone into labor yet.

I was told that when I went in for my 40 week appointment (which really would have been 40+3), we would schedule an induction for some time during my 41st week. Since I hoped for an unmedicated birth, she wanted to let me wait as long as possible, but my OB's office doesn't like to let people stay pregnant past 42 weeks. I don't know if they would have scheduled it any earlier, because I very much wanted to avoid an induction.

Midwife said I could have done one at 41+3. I didn't bother and ended up with one at 42 because they didn't like people to go past that date. I wonder if I would have gone into labour on my own given time. Things seemed to potentially be going in that direction. However, as it was I ended up with a c section when my big 9.14 baby got stuck. So more time probably would have just increased baby size!

They wouldn't do it here before or even at 40 weeks unless there was a reason like GD or IUGR, pre eclampsia, etc.

My ob would have let me at 40 and a half but the hospital I delivered at won't let you schedule on before 41 weeks. My due date was a sunday so mine was scheduled for 41 plus one. Thankfully I went into labor at 40 plus 2

He is willing to induce at 39 weeks if a 3rd trimester US indicates a big baby for a petite woman, which I still consider an elective induction. He is willing to induce at 40 weeks for no reason other than a favorable cervix. He prefers to induce by 41 weeks, but will "allow" a woman to go up to 42.

All that being said, the hospital will not allow you to induce before 41 weeks without a favorable cervix. And even if you got an elective induction scheduled before that with a favorable cervix, they will push you off if they don't have room.

I'm not sure how to answer. I was really scared of an induction, so my preference was not to induce. So my OB would let me go almost all the way to 42 weeks before throwing in the towel and inducing. I think we probably would have thought about a membrane sweep sometime between 41 and 42 weeks. But I think he would have let me induce anytime after my due date, if I wanted to.

@Mrs. Sunshine: I didn't know anything, so I just did what they told me to... It was the dr that delivered me (wasn't my OB) that told me he didn't think it was necessary at all b/c the baby wasn't big, my fluids were fine, etc. My induction was fine, but I did have an emergency c-section scare and it was just so long... I'd like to avoid it next time if possible if I have GD again!

I voted 41 weeks, but in reality they won't induce before 41+3. At 1 day post EDD I had an ultrasound to check fluid levels and position. He was born on 40+4 after spontaneous labour.

They schedule it after your due date. I was scheduled at 40+2. It was scheduled at my 39 week appointment because my blood pressure was rising. It actually went back down to normal, but I kept the induction.

@snowjewelz: I feel the same with my first. My doc kept me at the hospital overnight for a 24 hour urine catch at 38 weeks (when I know for a fact I could have done that at home). In the morning her told me there was too much urine and they couldn't get an accurate reading on the protiens so they were going to induce me anyway. After the induction started he said they tested it again and found protiens but I'm not sure I believe him. And I still stupidly saw him woth my second pregnancy too.

Well mine wanted to induce me at 38 weeks because he would be out of town on my due date. When I didn't go into labor that day he scheduled me for the day after. That, among other reasons, is why I'm not seeing him for this pregnancy.

I was allowed to schedule an induction at 39 with DD1, but I was having blood pressure issues. I think they prefer to wait until 40 unless there is a medical reason to do so. I could have waited but because of the blurred vision I choose to go early (and she was 8 lbs 10 oz. so I'm glad I did!)

39 weeks if there is a reason (aka I grow huge babies). But they wont even allow you to talk to scheduling util 39 weeks so that means my last one really was scheduled for 39w4d.

I'm sure though if I just "wanted" one for scheduling reasons they wouldn't let me until 40+.

If I hadn't ended up with a C-section, and my body was showing signs of being ready they would have scheduled an induction at 39 weeks. But only because it was my second child and I was in a ton of pain by the end. Otherwise I think they will schedule them for 41 weeks. If she had turned at the last minute they would have induced right away, though, because her position would have been unstable.

If its not medically necessary, the UK NHS allow (force?!) women to go to 42 weeks before they induce. They will offer membrane sweep from 40 weeks to try to get the body to naturally go into labour but wont induce before unless there is a very good reason. Most people I know have wanted to avoid induction at all costs, so they will try every old wives tale in the book once they're past their "due date"!
