@Mrs. Superhero: Ha! I was wondering why everyone was talking about a chemo nausea drug rather than diclectin! Wouldn't have occured to me that it wasn't availble- it's usually the other way around.

Bee took b12 and Unisom and that actually cured her nausea without nausea meds.

I got Zofran around 6 weeks or so and am still taking it from time to time. My MS has been really bad up until the last week or so. Luckily I usually wake up feeling fine, but it gets worse as the day goes on. So once I start feeling really bad, I go ahead and take half a pill.

I didn't have morning sickness but if I did, I would only have taken medication as a last resort, if it was interfering with my ability to do my regular routine. I worked 50 plus hours a week with an hour commute each way.

I took meds with my second pregnancy. I was crying and miserable because I was throwing up a couple times a day and just sooo sick feeling.all the time. I ended up on them for the whole pregnancy (and I still felt a bit ill...it was super).

I should note though, that in Canada we take dyclectin which is very safe and has few side effects (makes you super tired at first), I don't think you can get it in the states.

oh! and its dissolve-able on your tongue so you never have to worry about swallowing it (swallowing ANYTHING made me vomit).

I had horrible nausea from 4.5w-18w.
At the 10w mark I got meds after all this:
-a 10lb weight loss within 2 weeks
-dizziness and fainting due to not eating or absorbing foods
-dehydration to the point of going to the E.R for an I.V
-Overall lack of sleep and feeling DEPRESSED which can lead to stressing out baby

I took Zofran for a long time, at the beginning twice a day. It worked wonderfully. However, it has the side affect of headaches. I got them bad at first but they got less and less severe and eventually went away.

My dr. called in a prescription for Zofran when I was around 10 weeks I think (even though I had morning sickness starting around week 7). I only ended up taking 3 pills. I was generally nauseous and tired, and I was throwing up every couple of days. It probably affected my daily routine, but I wasn't working so it wasn't as crucial to get it under control. I tried to tough it out and not rely on medicine. On the days when it got bad enough that I would have considered taking medicine, I couldn't stomach the thought of actually swallowing it.

I started to take them when I couldn't get out of bed due to dehydration and exhaustion. I was getting sick 5-7 times a day and it was taking a toll on my body. When I started to lose weight the doctor said we needed to try the Zofran as she was starting to get concerned about me getting the nutrients I needed. It was like night and day, I only took them once a day or once every other day but my energy level shot through the sky and I wasn't running to the bathroom every hour at work anymore. Definitely worth it, I stopped taking them around 15 weeks. Still occasional get sick but only very rarely.

I'd probably avoid them if at all possible. I don't like taking medicine (or my prenatal vitamins for that matter, ha). It's not the throwing up that bothers me, it's the constant feeling of being sick, like I'm being poisoned with my own hormones. That really wore me down after two months.

My mom had bad morning sickness for 3+ months with all five of her pregnancies, and I don't think she ever took medicine for it!

I would take them only if I couldn't function on a daily basis, doctor was worried about my weight gain or something like that. I read somewhere that a significant percentage of women with HG end up aborting their babies because it's just too much. So I think meds are definitely called for in situations where it's getting really bad.

For me I started them when my nausea was effecting my ability to function normally. But I went on unisom/B6 rather than going for Zofran (although I did end up on Zofran last week while I had the stomach flu).

I always say that you should go on meds when the sickness starts making it difficult for you to function in your daily life. We all have different thresholds, but if nausea/vomiting is making it difficult for you to complete a normal day, medication may be needed.

Personally, I was on meds with both my kids; I have a genetic condition called hyperemesis gravidarum, which is basically like extreme morning sickness. Medication helped me function on a daily basis, and helped keep the weight loss and nutrition deficincies at bay long enough to have two healthy babies.

For me, throwing up makes my head hurt. So to prevent a migraine, I would take it.

i think it depends on how much the ms was interfering with my daily life. if i could function pretty normally, then i wouldn't bother with them. if i was sick all the time, and couldn't get through my daily routine, i would definitely opt for the drugs. as a general rule, i try not to take anything unless i'm desperate.

my sister-in-law had terrible sickness throughout her entire pregnancy. she was a nurse, but the sickness was so bad she couldn't work, and was actually on disability. she pretty much relied on the drugs to get through the day (and was still sick with the medicine). in that case, i wouldn't hesitate to take the meds.

I went on meds because I had nausea so badly I couldn't focus on anything else, and it lasted all day long. If I'd been one of those women who woke up, felt sick, barfed, and then was fine for the rest of the day, I wouldn't have felt like I needed meds, but I seriously could not get anything done in life, and I felt like it almost never let up. I was BEGGING my OB for anything to help- there was no question of whether or not I wanted meds.

I personally would take them if I couldn't function at work and take the to get through the work day. I would deal with it at home etc., but I haven't dealt with this ... Yet...
When did you first getting sick? I'm at 9 weeks and I haven't had anything more than mild nauesea, but every day I wait for it to get worse... So I think about this all the time....

I have morning sickness. The first 4 days, it was bad enough to be of concern (was starting to get dehydrated), but I figured out a few things, and it's been manageable ever since. I'm now down to vomiting once every 3-5 days at 15 1/2 weeks. I don't get dehydrated, I'm right on track with pregnancy weight gain, my lab work is completely normal, though I do need to switch to a prenatal with iron (and that wasn't even a "right away" - it was "when you're feeling better.")

I am 110% not concerned. My doctor isn't either, but she always offers nausea meds for morning sickness, just in case (I refused). My husband, however, is convinced that this is completely out of kilter with what I should be going through (his mom only had MS with one of his siblings, and the one he was too young to remember.)

I'm not asking for advice - just asking at what point you personally would take nausea meds. As soon as MS reared it's head? If and only if you were losing weight/getting dehydrated? After the first trimester? Something else?
