@Beyond2: Age matters in this case, too.

DD had a lingering fever and congestion at 12.5 months, but I never took her in - the nurse at my ped's office said as long as she was responding to Motrin and was doing fine (she was - sleeping more than usual, but otherwise happy and cuddly), then I would be putting her at more risk by exposing her to all the sick germs in their office than by just letting the virus take its course. Obviously some people would be uncomfortable with that advice, but I agreed. DD was better within a couple of days.

Thanks everyone! I called and they said as long as he isn't yanking his ears or inconsolable we can wait until his Friday appointment.

You can call and speak with a nurse but our Ped likes us to wait 4 days - on the 5th day we can bring them in - usually by then the fever is gone on its own (only time it wasn't was when DD had HFM)

Just to add... We're I the middle of a snowstorm that is supposed to last until tomorrow afternoon and we have a well child visit scheduled for Friday already.

If I know it's teething and other than the fever that responds to tylenol they seem happy, I try to wait it out.
The only time LO was sick, he was majorly congested with his top teeth and had a mild fever, it lasted a little too long for my liking and I did call the doctor at the end of the week and went in. The only thing they could do was confirm that it was nothing but teething and that I was doing everything I could/right. It was totally worth the visit though just to hear that.
Sometimes just making the call/visit to confirm what you already know is best. Especially if the symptoms last longer than you're comfortable with.

I would call and speak to a nurse and get her opinion. But I think they'll recommend you come in if he hasn't improved after three days.

I'd have brought him in already, because when my son's temperature responds to medicine, but comes back, it is an ear infection.

Good luck.

I'd call the doc and ask if they think you should come in or not.

DS has had a fever between 100-102 for 3 days now. He's cranky and sleep sucks but other than that no symptoms. He's also teething his top two canines. His fever does respond to medicine but keeps coming back. When would you say this warrants a doctor visit?
