@Coco Bee: Yeah my mom was really lucky with me and I was a spectacular sleeper from early on. Plus, at the beginning she either left me with her mom or her sisters so none of them minded waking up with me if they had to.

@MamaMoose: I agree with you. Easier to start when they are younger and get use to overnights/vacations with grandma and grandpa. Plus I think that it is important for DH and I to still have time together just us. Our relationship is a priority just has much as raising the baby.

We've done it a few times. The first time was when she was 1 year. DD was totally fine didn't care that we were gone. We just did it again recently and she did really well but kept asking where we went so that just makes you feel bad!

I'm leaving her at almost 10 months for 5 days while we go to Key West for my birthday. I'm having a hard time with it because I'm SO attached to her, but I know that we need to get away, just the two of us.

I actually think it would be easier to start when the child is a little bit younger to get them used to being apart from mom and dad. My parents never left my brother until he was two and a half. They went away for a long weekend and left my brother with my aunt. Well... my brother just wandered my aunt's house the WHOLE time going "Where mommy go? Where mommy go?". He was obviously was just fine but it was a rough weekend for everyone involved. My parents learned from their mistake and left me for an overnight the first time when I was like 2 months old. I never had an issue being left with anyone else my whole life.

I was thinking around 1 year. I don't think it'd bother me at all since she'll be with my mom! Our 5th anniversary will be when she's about 15 months old, so I'm thinking that would be a great time. And my mom would LOVE to watch her.

I actually graduate from grad school a month after she's born, so my mom will be watching her that weekend for us.

@coco bee - I was! I had bridesmaids stuff from 8 am til midnight and we were constantly on the move. now I am a nutcase about saving every drop, because the weekend away had me nearly all the way through my stash, which I haven't really been able to grown since...

@Coco Bee - totally - plus I had no storage for the pumped milk and had to dump probably a gallon of milk down the drain. it was the worst -- but my best friend was getting married, so I just grinned and made it work

Yeah I totally trust my mom and sister with my son's life. They are both amazing parents. And Cobi is SO easy compared to my nephew haha!!

LO is 14 months and ..... I'm still pretty attached. I've finally agreed to take our first overnight trip for Chanukah and it's going to be one night and in the same town that we live in so if anything happens we'll be right here. We'll see how I feel after that and then go from there, the next trip will just be a weekend trip.

Honestly, I'd vote that if you aren't nursing you can go when he's 1 yr old so long as he is 100% comfortable with your parents and sister and they know how to deal with him.
What I mean by that is: because you have such an awesome babysitter: it makes sense. I'd trust my mom with my life and my son's and I think I would do it as soon as he was 1ish. Of course, if I didn't have someone as awesome as my mom to stay with him, or my MIL, then no---I wouldn't even think about leaving.
--I'd take him I guess :/ haha

DH and I REALLY wanted a second honeymoon before DS was born because we couldn't afford a honeymoon when we got married- we just stayed at a local B&B for a few days - which was nice and we had a good time- but we wanted a real vacation!! Well we had a baby sooner than we had originally planned so the vaca never happened.
Now we for sure want to do something before baby #2. I'm just wondering when is a good time to go -DS is 7 months old and we probably wouldn't go while we're still BF which may be up to two years.

I was thinking we might go when he is between 2-3 years. Is that too soon to leave him for a week? He'd probably spend half the time with my parents, and half with my sister.
