@snowjewelz: I would have LOVED you coming over to help, if I was at the restaurant! I like to try new things but definitely get the fear! Googling sometimes backfires because one restaurant might interpret the dish slightly differently. An expert helping me pick is always first choice!

Google is my friend if I want to know more. Often though, the description with flavors listed is enough for me to narrow down my choices. I always ask the waiter their opinion on my choices before I pick a winner. Knowledgeable wait staff (or dining partner) is key when trying new cuisine.

@snowjewelz: I didn't realize til reading your post that I don't try new ethnic cuisines that often!! Gotta change that... although our current city doesn't much in the way of ethnic foods!

I always do the following -

1. Look at the website/Yelp pics & reviews before hand

2. If #1 is not done, I will literally google the dishes to see what they look like and get more info before ordering. I find that visuals work way better than descriptions for me!

3. Last resort is asking the waiter/waitress what they recommend or just picking blindly

We were out at a Korean restaurant yesterday and there was this couple obviously trying to cuisine for the first, or second time. They had so much trouble with the menu and also communicating with the lady. I really wanted to jump in and explain it to them!
