Usually between $10-20 for better wines. I do love some of the crappy white zin's though when I don't want to open an expensive one (my standby is $5 Beringer).

I do really like the South African wines, and they are fairly inexpensive- Herding Cats and Sebeka are my favs.

Luckily we don't really have to buy wine. My husband does sales for a wine distributor and gets a case a month, usually a mix of red and white. When we do buy wine it's usually $30 and up. The past few Christmases I have gotten him a really nice bottle to put in his wine fridge.

I've been surprised at the great variety of wine under $15. DH and his family are big wine drinkers (from Santa Rosa), but we usually stick to wine $15 or under for casual drinking and $20+ for special occasions.

The wine we bought for our wedding was all $10/bottle and it was some of the best wine I've had in a long time.

I try to spend around $10 if it's just for my husband and me. If we're going to a party or something, we usually spend between $15 and $30, depending on the people we're hanging out with - ha!

I disagree about having to spend a whole lot on wine. You just have to know which cheaper bottles are good. I live near a wine region and Australia produces great wines, so I am kind of spoilt.

Most of the Australian shiraz I have seen available in the US have been good. Usually around $15 or less, too.

@Mrs. Bee: I used to be an exclusively white wine drinker, but got into red about 2 years ago and now I don't really drink whites anymore! I looovvve big bold reds too. My favorites are Zinfandels and Malbecs. I have to admit it has been really hard giving up wine during this pregnancy! I feel like a wino.

@JessLC: Yep. Our $100 bottles are cabs, whereas the $15 bottles are usually rieslings.

@JessLC: yes you're definitely right. i was referring to reds since that's what we drink most. but you can def get a really nice bottle of sauvignon blanc in the mid teens!

I think for whites, you can get a good bottle in the mid teens range. But for reds like Pinot noirs and cabs, you generally have to spend a little more. The one exception is Malbecs from Argentina which can be excellent and very reasonably priced. When DH and I went there, we visited Mendoza which is their wine region, and the wines were dirt cheap and so, so deliciously good! So I would say We spend $ teens for whites and $20s for reds.

It really varies . . . mostly around $15 or so per bottle. But there are several bottles we (used to) drink regularly that are in the $100 range.

For everyday wines I think we spend about $15. My husband is the wine buyer in our home. His collection ranges from $15 to well into the hundred dollar range.

To drink at home regularly, I usually buy in the $20 range. In a restaurant, it could be hundreds but that's only because DH is a wine snob! :-P

Usually between $10-$15. But we have close friends who are really into wine so when we drink with them, we spend between $20 and $40 per bottle and oh my, the difference is pretty huge.

Typically less than $15 and I try to spend less than $10. There are so many great wines under $15, and we have an awesome liquor/wine shop near our house that has great specials on bottles of wine. Our favorite wines are under $10 for one bottle, and just under $15 for the other and both stand up to much more expensive wines.

It's kind of a game for me too, finding the great wines that are also cheap!

ETA: in restaurants, in the $50-$100 range, sometimes a bit more.

I usually buy bottles in the $20 range, but the last time I bought some wine I got some bottles in the $13 range because they were on sale and were all highly rated (ordered them online).

But they ended up giving Mr. Bee a horrible hangover!

How much do you typically spend on a bottle of wine?
