@jetsa: haha that's definitely true! Ok those numbers make me feel a little better - she's always been such a piggy and she's so small I just want her to grow well!

@daniellemybelle: I would say she's definitely snacking these days! Especially when nursing. But she makes it very clear when she doesn't want to eat - pushes the bottle away, tries to leap onto the floor to crawl, haha. We are going to try only offering solids after she's had a full feeding and not a snack and see if that helps a little. Assuming we can get her to drink enough!

How does she act when she's not wanting to eat? At around 5 months my LO started "snacking" on milk (boob or bottle) because she is just so busy & easily distracted. She drinks milk more frequently now than she did as a newborn! Have you tried getting her to drink out of a sippy cup?

@Pirouette: kellymom says they should only take 1-1.5 ounces per hour so maybe she's just too busy to eat more now. J just started crawling and his milk intakes decreased, I think he just wants to play! Eating is boring ;)

@MapleMoose: yea we're only doing once a day too and not that much!

@jetsa: that's exactly how she's been but she's too young! :( she's only taken like 8-10 oz lately... She was taking 15-20oz while I was at work a few weeks ago, and now she's hovering around 10. But she's getting so little solids and she's so active now. I think her poor tummy hurts :(

@Pirouette: J started dropping ounces at daycare a few weeks ago and he is 9 months but he dropped dramatically from 15-8 or 9.

We started solids 1x/day at 4.5 months. She actually started drinking more milk and went through a growth spurt.

@Lindsay05: so far she's had sweet potatoes a few days last week, 1 day of banana (she loved it but i was worried about constipation because she seemed uncomfortable already) and then pear. no grains yet! i'm guessing it must be a shock to the system the first time they process something other than milk, right?!

@Alivoo01: see that's what i thought! that's why i was so surprised she's been eating so much less lately. maybe we should try doing the solids IMMEDIATELY after nursing, rather than what i think she's doing now, which is waiting an hour or so

At that age, we fed him milk first then gave him solids. He drank his normal amount. It wasn't until a couple months later when we started doing 3 meals of solids that he dropped the amount of milk he drank.

It could just be an adjustment. What kind of solids are you feeding? I know cereals tended to make DD1 more fussy. Maybe trying a different food? And they should drink less milk with the more food they eat. I found success trying the solids on an empty stomach as well.

did your LO drink less milk? did your LO have an adjustment period stomach-wise?

We started solids last week at 6 months, and she seems to be drinking way less from the bottle while i'm away, even though she's not eating that much yet (i thought solids at the beginning were just for fun!) we've been trying to do solids when she's already had some milk too.

I'm also wondering if the solids are messing with her tummy since she's not used to them yet, and that's causing her to drink less. Other option is the fact that she learned to crawl last week and has been SOOOO distracted. But she has seemed a little uncomfortable at times - maybe gassy? so i'm wondering if she's just adjusting to solid food?
