Not usually. Verbal instructions are usually enough. Lunch at 12, nap at 1, for example.

I haven't left him much but and only with my mom. I just tell her around when he will need to eat again and maybe what types of food.

When we do finally get a babysitter I think I'd leave a rough schedule of sleep times and eating times. I also think it is a good idea to let them know if any strong preferences in their routine.

I haven't left her with anyone other than my mom for a few hours, and since she knows LO so well, I haven't felt the need for anything more than quick verbal instructions (like, she already ate, or she will need a snack, etc).

I've never left her with anyone besides Dh for more than two hours. Even with Dh I'm like, ok she needs a nap at 1, then her bottle with this much milk, then ... Do you want me to write this down?? I might be controlling!!

We are leaving her with a babysitter when ergo to a weddig in a few weeks and I will be writing stuff down!

When I left LO for 5 days I had a schedule for every day including a menu for each day. It wasn't meant for my mom to strictly follow but to give her ideas LO eats and what activities are available each day for them. My mom really appreciate it.

I do.... But it's more because lo cares, not me. Little things like "close the closest door before nap" is important to her because she cries if they're open, and when she is crying whoever watching her wouldn't know why because she wont tell them and just sit there and cry. I feel stupid writing that stuff down because I don't care about a door being open, but lo does.

My mom actually asked me to write down his routine the first time she watched him overnight! I leave instructions if it's someone watching him for the first time. After a few times, just verbal instructions.

I write out my best idea of a schedule/routines but then I tell them to do whatever works for them. I'm only particular about the food since we're trying to pinpoint allergies.

I am on the flip side of the experience, as a nanny I appreciated written instructions for the parts of the day I didn't usually handle. Sometimes you have no clue what odd little routines kids have latched onto and it is nice to have a bit of guidance in how the lo would like things done. Odds are she will skim your notes and then just refer back to it if they have a problem but that works! At least if S is demanding something in the tub and your mom doesn't know what it is now she knows it's ducks and not measuring cups!

Yep. I text them to my mom so she has them readily available. I probably go into too much detail but she likes to know her schedule.

I do! I wouldn't worry so much about LO but I think it makes it easier on whoever it is (usually mil) for LO to be on her routine... When LO was younger it was for me too..so LO wouldn't be totally thrown off when we returned. But mil actually asked me for instructions last time! Dd thrives on routine.

i don't write instructions, but i verbally give them, but haven't done it much the last couple times. BUT since she's older and her routine is different now, the last few times grandmas have watched her, she hasn't gotten enough food (i don't know if they think she's existing on milk alone?!) or her diaper was totally weird or her nap was off.... so, next time i'm writing up some stuff!

Most parents just write down emergency number and verbally give a gist of their night time routine. They let me do my own thing and realize I come with a lot of experiance. Honestly, do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Have fun!!!

@MamaMoose: @matador84: My mom watches her all the time, but it's usually only for a few hours. I know she's totally capable of putting her to sleep without my instructions, but I like to be thorough. :silly:

We're leaving Sadie overnight for the first time next weekend, and I'm currently typing up instructions for my mom. It's only one night, and Sadie's pretty low maintenance, but I feel like I NEED to. My mom is surely going to roll her eyes... she successfully raised three kids, and she has seven grandkids. Annnnd, I'm already on page two. "Give her a few little duckies in the bath..." This is stupid, but I can't help it.

Do you write up detailed instructions when you leave your LO? Tell me I'm not the only freak.
