Kids don't really take to fondly to their teacher taking weeks to learn their names so I always had to do it really quickly. I try to learn them in groups so it's more manageable and I'll get the kids working on something so I can practice their names in my head over and over. It helps that they have to write their names on their paper so I can look over their shoulder if I need a quick reminder. If I'm outside of the classroom setting I try to find something about the person to associate their name with. UNLESS I think about their name instead of listening to them and then repeat it to myself for the next 5 minutes. Then it's like 50%. Just kidding, if I do all that then I remember someone's name most of the time. I just usually forget to make the effort, and then I spend the rest of the conversation thinking, "What was your name again?" When you meet someone new, how often do you remember their name?
