If most things are prepared by you, but some elements are jarred, I consider it semi-homemade. However, I don't count condiments or flavorings. So canned chicken stock (or bullion) for instance, can be used and I'd still consider it from scratch. </p> <p>I used to not count canned whipped cream until I met DH. A homemade meal could be boxed spaghetti, canned sauce, ground beef, as long as I did the cooking and assembling at home ; a TV dinner would not be homemade. "From scratch" would be not using mixes and convenience items--and I really don't make things from scratch very often. Cooking from scratch just isn't one of my priorities!
