When they were younger, they slept in travel cribs. We'd hide in the bathroom until they fall asleep and the come back out. We won't be able to lounge around or anything. We just end up both browsing our phones and whatnot. Now that they're older. They sleep in bed with us. The sucky part is that we have to sleep in separate beds, one with each kid, because they'll keep each other up otherwise.

@HabesBabe: Best travel website ever. DH and I went to London on our honeymoon and we booked our hotel through the UK travelzoo and we got the most amazing hotel room for dirt cheap!!

@Bookish: I've booked NYC hotels through travelzoo twice and both times the hotels were awesome and I could've never afforded them otherwise!

i'd check out air bnb!

but when we stay in a hotel, we turn on loud white noise. seriously we have three different sources. we've slept in the same hotel room with two kids with two different bedtimes many times before and have never had a problem.

@Bookish: Usually their deals are for stays that are in the pretty near future, so you'll be able to get better May deals in a month or two (I think most of their deals now are good through March).

There's no way we could afford two hotel rooms in NYC. But we also probably wouldn't let her sleep in the bed with us. I would just be nervous that that would become her preference and we'd have difficulties getting her back in her crib once we returned home (she's never co-bedded with us, though). So we'd have her sleep in a PNP/travel crib. Have you checked travelzoo.com? My absolute favorite website for booking hotels, and they always have great NYC deals!

We get a room with two double/queen beds so that DS gets his own bed. We're fortunate that noise doesn't bother him so we can watch TV, talk, flush the toilet, shower, etc. without waking him.

@Bookish: good luck! LO HATES sharing a bed with us (which blows, especially when she wakes up at 5am sometimes... "come and snuggle with us, baby." cue shrieks and cries and wiggles) so we've always had to get a secondary space. I think @Mrs. Wagon and Wagon Sr. have gotten normal rooms before, but will bring their laptop into the bathroom to stream a movie or something. Like @Beehive:'s LO, C will not stay asleep if we watch TV or if we're in the room with her-- she'll perk up and want to play :)

@mjane: AirBnB has been a lifesaver for us! And like you said, it helps cut down the food costs, too. It's even nice to have a microwave or something just to heat up food or a bottle of milk.

We just kept her up a little later and we went to bed early or did something quiet like read with a small light when we stayed in 1 room.

In a few hotels we were able to get a larger room and stash her crib out of the line of sight so she wouldn't realize we were still there.

@HabesBabe: yeah, we've pretty much given up on hotel rooms. She sleeps lightly and wakes a lot if we're in the room with her, and she wakes me up. We liked airbnb before but now we're total converts--you can get REALLY nice places for much less than hotel rooms, and it's nice to be able to not have every meal in a restaurant with a baby.

(The only time a hotel room even remotely worked for us was when we had a deck to sit on after she went to bed.)

Have you tried VRBO? I haven't seen what it's like in the city, but theres potential there for separate space for less $$... At least it's like that in other cities!

@HabesBabe: SO expensive! haha!

I think I'm going to convince DH that the world will not end if she doesn't have her own space.. it's significantly cheaper and honestly... we probably will be heading to bed not long after her, after a tiring day of travel!

We have done suites with LO in his travel crib. He's not a deep enough sleeper not to be bothered by noise and light from DH and me being awake after he goes to bed.

ETA - I don't think LO would ever be able to sleep in our bed - he sees big bed as party time, so that wouldn't work for us!

We just did a suite with a separate bedroom and lounge/kitchen and it was great. The time before that we had a very large closet that we put the crib in (it had louvered doors so the air circulated fine). Not sure the latter solution would work now she's older, but it worked fine at 5 months.

We've gotten suites for hotel rooms (I search Priceline or other travel sites for deals because suites are expensive!). I can only imagine how much a suite costs in Manhattan!

Lately, we've been renting a house/apt on AirBnB.com so we have a full living space and some cooking space, too. Most of the places we've gotten on AirBnB are cheaper than a hotel suite in the same city!

We travel a lot and if it's a teeny NYC hotel room, I'd co-bed. DS sleeps like crap when he's anywhere but home, so he'd probably be falling asleep when we go to bed but at least I wouldn't have to worry about him crying in his pack n play.

DH and I are taking LO with us to NYC in May (was March, but we want more time to save up!).

I was trying to find us a decently priced suite (with a dividing door/partition between the living room and bedroom) so that LO can have her own space and DH and I can have a place to watch TV and hang out after she goes to bed at 7.

Problem is...NYC is expensive!! Duh! So, my question is, when you are in a hotel with your LO, how do your sleeping arrangements work? Do you get a suite or divided room, or have them right there in the room? I'd really like to save some money and just get us one room... but I'm worried that we'll keep her up/she'll keep us up.

Thoughts? Experiences?
