I went back to work at 5.5 months too! I have never had a stash as I hate pumping and had lots of social obligations during my leave and I just dropped off a package of formula for when my LO needed extra. Until the last few weeks I pumped 3x at work and got about 15 oz. in the beginning when LO wasn't really napping and wasn't eating solids, it wasn't enough so they often made her a 4th bottle of formula. 2-3 weeks in as she was actually napping for more than 20 mins and eating solids and I can't remember the last time they made formula. I chose Gerber Good Start Protect based on online reviews and some friends. I also bought a package at home and have my husband use it for bottles when I have had my period or have been sick and know my supply is down. As she is loving solids, I figure a bottle of formula is no different than all the supplemental solids! Good luck!

I didn't have to supplement, but if I did not build a significant freezer stash during maternity leave I would have.

LO is 5.5 months and I have not had to supplement. I pump a lot of times a day though, and on the weekend to keep up, and to add small amounts to the freezer. We feed about 13 ounces for nineish hours between nursing. Congrats on your new job!

I just started supplementing this week. LO is nine months old and I've been pumping just enough to send 14 oz to daycare, but its been more and more of a struggle and she dropped weight percentiles significantly at her last check up. The amount of time I was spending trying to meet demand was just not sustainable with my work, so supplementing seems like the best option for us.

I talked supplementing through with the pediatrician and she gave me samples of formula - we're trying her on soy because she's had a number of food based allergies.

My plan is to send in one four oz bottle of formula and try to build up a little bit of a stash so I can stretch out at least some BM for as long as possible.

I pump twice a day and have had to supplement since my third week back at work. I have a sizable stash (100 oz) but I want to stretch it out as long as possible.

We feed an equivalent of 1.25 ounces an hour, and I can usually meet it by pumping 3 times a day. DS takes 4 ounce bottles

I will be starting a new job on Wednesday (yay!) J is 5 1/2 months old. We supplemented for a month, but the last 4.5 months he's been EBF with a bottle every other day or so, depending on when I've been away from him.

I am worried that I will not be able to pump enough for him while I'm away. I have a SMALL (25 oz) stash enough to get started, but I rarely get a good amount from the pump no matter what I try (flange size, compressions, longer session, etc).

Did anyone find that they went back to work and were no longer able to meet baby's needs? If so, what did you do? Add pump sessions at home? Supplement? How did you go about finding a formula that worked for you?
