No. I didn't know how to cook, and DH knew it at the time too. Somehow he was confident that I would learn over time.

@PEAPIE: hahaha, that's a great idea!

I make a mean (and somewhat lean) penne a la vodka. I'm more of a baker.

I don't remember cooking anything in particular to try to impress him early on-- maybe lasagna? He looooves to cook so he usually cooked for me (still does!) or we'd cook together. I don't think we did much cooking early on though, we mostly ate out the first couple months of dating

I had just taken a few cooking lessons when DH and I started dating. I was proud of my new skills and made him homemade pasta. Then I learned that his mom was an accomplished cook who had won state cooking contests and co-authored two cookbooks! My confidence in my cooking deflated a little bit, but DH seemed to appreciate whatever I made for him.
@Andrea: good plan!
@PEAPIE: haha! :wink:

I made a shredded turkey enchilada once and paired it with spicy corn when we were dating about 4 years ago or so. Nothing too impressive, just something I had tried at a conference and the cook gave out the recipe so decided to try making it myself. And now, DH still asks for it to this day, as recently as yesterday.

I didn't really try to impress him... I wanted to keep his expectations real low, as to not set him up for disappointment later! Haha. It worked.

Nothing - my husband helped me learn to cook! He cooked plenty of meals for me though: roast chicken with Tuscan beans, big spinach salads with pancetta, fish tacos, wilted greens tacos, chicken and mole....the list goes on and on! He definitely earned bonus points in the kitchen!!

The first meal I made for him was baked salmon, rice pilaf, asparagus, and Greek salad. He loved it! I had no idea salmon was his favorite fish.

We were LD and he drove to see me one time. His arrival was while I was at work so I made a pasta dish for him to snack on. mIt had sauteed bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, Italian dressing marinated chicken, and then I simmered everything in a vodka sauce. This was all tossed in about a pound pasta. When I got home there was nothing left.

Bed and I dated long distance, so I never had a chance to cook for her! If I did, I would've cooked either my rissoto or my pesto chicken. Both recipes are from my friend's Italian dad, and they are crowdpleasers.

It was all smokes and mirrors though... I couldn't really cook. I just had a few magic recipes.
