I had a vaginal, med-free delivery and although I am sure I heard her cry, I have no memory of it whatsoever. She barely crowned, and then was delivered in one push. I think I was just so shocked that she was out so quickly and was SO exhausted from labor that I just blocked that time out. I wish I could remeber that time frame though:(

I heard her cry as soon as she was out (vaginal delivery). It was so loud and strong, I remember thinking that there was no doubt she was alive and kicking!

And she didn't stop crying for the next 3 months.

Scheduled c section for breech baby and I can only say I think I heard him cry. I was really really scared about the surgery and was in pretty much a state of shock through the whole thing. I blanked most of the first day out. Most of the memories I have are from my husbands story telling.

DS was born via csection. I definitely heard him cry but it felt like it took a few minutes. DH said he was perfectly fine. He was just calm and looking around before he started freaking out! :P

@Andrea: Scary! Very emotional!
@Mrs. Jump Rope: Glad you got to hear it once the fluid was out.
@Mrsbells: That stinks! It was a long time before I saw my baby, too.
@kokobee: Aww!
@lemondrop: Isn't it such a huge relief to be no-longer-pregnant?
@cyndistar3: For the second, I would have been scared, too! (If I had the presence of mind to have any thoughts at all.)
@chopsuey119: Hah. Did they hear the crying?
@winniebee: That is awesome!
@highwire: Huh, never heard of that before.
@mediagirl: That is so sweet! And it is SO common to have meconium in the water. I wish I knew that before.
@rachiecakes: Oh wow, how long did it take to inflate his lung again? Glad he's ok now!

DS was born with a collapsed lung and I remember the doctor saying, "can you hear him cry?" and I didn't really hear him. I remember I heard a little noise but it wasn't the classic cry moment I had seen on TV a million times.

Yeah, she cried pretty soon after coming out. The doctor held her up and then cut the cord quickly to shuttle her over to the nurses and doctors to check her out before they could give her to me (meconium in my water). She cried as he was handing her over to the other staff. Most beautiful sound ever.

Yes! He cried right when he came out - I was waiting with baited breath for that cry. When he started crying I grabbed DH and remember saying "he's crying, he's ok!!!" They put him on my chest immediately (before they even cut the cord) and he settled down pretty much right away. I had skin to skin before they took him to weigh him/clean him off.

For my first (vaginal delivery) lo cried right away and was placed on my chest immediately and stopped crying after a minute or two. Such a happy sound! For #2 (c-section) they just pulled her out and walked away with her and I got scared because she wasn't crying yet and they didn't even hold her up to show me... but she did start crying after a little bit so I was relieved. I don't think she cried long though because she was perfectly content when they finally brought her over to me.

Vaginal delivery, I heard him cry, but was so relieved to have him out that I didn't process it very well. Even when they gave him to me for skin to skin I didn't really know what to do with him! I was pretty out of it even though I wasn't very drugged up.

I finally felt better once the placenta was out and the doc was suturing up my tear. I started laughing and joking around then with the doc ,med student, and my nurse. Meanwhile my husband was having his big moment with our son and the nurses. Later he said it sounded like we were having a party on the other end of the room.

Yes, I delivered vaginally and I heard it as they began carrying her over to the table. The cord was wrapped around her neck 2x so I couldn't hold her but it was very emotional to see my baby for the first time and to hear her cry.

I had a c-section but was awake and heard my LO crying so loud and hard. I wasnt expecting it at all. one minute they were pushing really hard on my belly so hard I could barely breathe and then the next minute she was screaming her head off and tears starting rolling down my face and I kept saying "my baby" over and over again, I couldnt see her but could hear everyone commenting on how alert she was and how her eyes were open right away and then they took her away and DH went with her. It was very emotional.

LO literally screamed/cried for 40 minutes after she was born. It was so intense they called the on-call ped and NICU to make sure it was within the "normal" range of screaming. It was. In the end, she was just hungry, mad and really worked up about getting evicted from her warm home!

My honest answer is it that at first it was fine because it meant she was healthy in the few minutes before I got to see her. After that however, it was definitely NOT beautiful. It was super stressful, and super, super loud.

LO was born via c-section.

My three biological children I heard cry, my adopted son I did not as we were not in the delivery room. All three of my kids were c section but I was alert enough to hear it. I had such a crazy pregnancy with my twins that I remember asking the doctor why they weren't crying. She just said relax Hun they aren't even out yet. When I heard the first cry I was very relieved. I remember thinking their actually here!

When you delivered your LO (or when you were with your spouse), did you hear your LO scream?
Was it beautiful?

I was knocked out for my c-section and never heard it. I didn't realize that meant something to me until I just now saw a mom on TLC's A Baby Story hear her baby cry for the first time.

Can you share that experience with me?
