We ask LO to take deep breaths and try to calm her body. It sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

I try not to let MYSELF get worked up about it. I tell him to take a deep breath and count to ten, then I take a really exaggerated breath in and count. And keep doing it, and eventually he'll start doing it with me. If he's like manic physical, I start ordering him to exercise ("ten jumping jacks, quickhurry! Now ten pushups, fastfastfast!") etc. Usually one of the two (or both) calms him down enough to sleep.

DD is is almost 3.5. She is a handful and fights me on everything. She also will throw a pretty big fit over taking a nap or going down for bed.
Sometimes I just let her cry it out. I hate it but after maybe 5 mins she finally gives in.
I also will diffuse calming EO's such as lavender and honestly that really helps her.

I do whatever it takes at that point to help them get to sleep the fastest. Usually at that point my kids can't make decisions (do you want your blanket? Yes I do/screams crying to get the blanket off).

Ds can get really wound up before bed but doesn't act bad. I just need him to go to sleep! I give a lavender bath (dr teals) and the hyland tablets that help calm kids down.

I just nurse her (it's always her, not DS!). I don't know what we'll do when we're done nursing. Usually she is just tired or hungry and needs to take a second to chill with me. There have been a couple times when she melts down over getting into the car seat. I just have to get her in as quickly as possible and get her home.

At the suggestion of our OT we created a calm down spot in the house with things he likes but that are quiet and we go there together. I thought it was a little cheesy but holy crap it works. Immediately snaps him out of it. Its like he really does want to calm down but just doesn't know how.

When she is really really out of control and possessed, she has an ear infection. Every time. So, I call the pediatrician. The last time t happened she was insane while DH was trying to put her down for a nap and I called and made the first appt after nap time.

But the generally insane times, when it's not an ear infection, I put her in her room in timeout and tell her we both need a time out to calm down. I let her scream away in her room while I take a breather and try to calm myself down in the living room. Usually she screams herself out and then I can go in and sit with her.

I giver her the paci and put her to bed early. But I know that isn't going to work forever, especially when we paci wean.

Normally, I try to make sure dinner is something she likes, but sometimes I have to just shut the door and let her scream.

What do you do?

It's always at home for us, and at bedtime when she's horribly overtired.

Like now🙄

I'm sitting on her bed making sure she stays out and waiting for her to pass out from exhaustion. She's 3.5 and woke up today at 3:30 am so it's been a long day.
