@milkteaandpolkadots: I use the bottle attachment on my pump and just hold her one way while I use my other hand to hold the pump. It's pretty easy.

Just an update from when I originally posted this. I chose not to pump in the middle of the night and have had no problems with supply or clogged ducts, etc. I still freeze around 30oz per week and haven't really needed to dip into my freezer stash at all! I also go to bed a couple hours after my DD but do not pump before I go to sleep.

OMG YES! I got mastitis TWICE because I skipped pumping in the middle of the night. A close friend of mine recently just got over her mastitis for the same reason.

@L2sweetpea: I didn't wake up to pump but I did stay up a few hours past when she went to bed (usually 3ish) & pumped & then I would try to wake up & pump before she was up. That has worked out great for me & let me build a really nice freezer stash while keeping my supply up.

@L2sweetpea: how do you pump and nurse at the same time? Im always leaking in my other breast when I nurse. It would be awesome if I could pump the other side. I haven't tried to yet, but it doesn't seem possible.

No, I was way too tired! I might try to this time though and hopefully it will improve my milk supply.

While sleep training, I was so excited by the hours of sleep that I didn't pump but my boobs got so engorged that I could hardly fall asleep anyway. So now, I pump when I feel I have to.

I didn't pump last night and pumped the one side while LO fed on the other. I got 9oz when I pumped so I'm assuming my supply won't be affected if I don't, but definitely good to hear others opinions.

I used to get up to pump because I was SO engorged. Now at almost 8 months pp I just sleep through the night with my LO. Not pumping hasn't affected my supply. She's still mostly breastfed (90%) and eats just a few bites of solids.

Absolutely. I had enough supply issues that if I didn't there were going to be problems. If I didn't pump in the middle of the night it would only take about 2-3 nights before I noticed a significant drop in supply. Usually my son would wake around midnight for a feeding so if he didn't wake by then I would pump at 1am.

Well if you feel like you won't be producing enough, then I would say yes. I would wake up to pump solely because I was breastfeeding from one breast only... so I had to keep it "flowing"

It really depends on your production too.

Our daughter is 2 months old, and for the first time last night gave us a great present of 10 hours of sleep through the night! Woo hoo. However I woke up this morning and wondered if I should still pump in the middle of the night? I actually woke up when she usually does and debated pumping but I was hesitant because if she did wake up I wanted to be able to feed her.
So if you breastfed did you still pump in the middle of the night, once your LO began sleeping?
How long did you wait to start (ie. How many nights did you wait to see if your LO was definitely going to sleep through the night before you began getting up to pump)?
If you didn't pump in the middle of the night did it affect your supply?
