Sometimes a quick catnap, like 15 min or less, will help reset mine and minimize the overtired effects. You might be able to find LO's sweet spot, as I'm sure it's different for each kid. Mine, if they sleep longer than 15 in the car/ergo, it might prevent them from falling asleep at their usual bed/naptime. But less than 15 and it usually just helps give them a second wind and stave off crankies :)

I let LO sleep. Before day care, she'd never stay asleep in the bucket after we brought her in the house. Because she stayed asleep after day care days, I figured she really needed it. Her bedtime has always been a bit later - at that time it was 8:30. So we let her sleep. She would wake up in time to have some fun before bedtime.

At that age, if LO fell asleep in the car I would let him sleep. If he was awake, I would start bedtime a little earlier, but not much. LOs bedtime is 7:30 p.m.

My LO is four months also, and always naps poorly at daycare. What I do is usually nurse her and let her sleep from about 5 - 5:30, and then if she's really fried we start bedtime around 7 or so instead of about 7:20. I'm in the same boat that I don't want to move bedtime earlier because we want to see her in the evening.

We do an earlier bedtime (sometimes as early as 5:45pm but for sure by 6:30pm) anway but ifshe is very tired when I pick her up I let her get a short nap in right when we get home. I do miss being able to spend time with her, but have figured out that the awake time if super tired isn't enjoyable for either of us anyway. (DD is 6 months)

DS is 2.5 and I suspect he only sleeps about 1-1.5 hours at daycare for naps. At home he can easily go 2-3 hours on the weekend. I've started trying to do an earlier bedtime to compensate because he can be really grumpy, especially towards the end of the week.

Maddy had a no nap at the babysitter day. It's terrible because she is cranky and refuses to eat, at 2 it's already hard! I put her to bed at 7:45 instead of her regular bedtime of 9.

@Sammyfab: Yep! She is only 4 months. 5:30 is so early! I didn't even pick her up from daycare until that time today. Definitely going to try moving her bedtime up and maybe I will try to dream feed to get the last nursing session in

How old is she? I'm guessing she's pretty young?

It sounds like you're having a hard time getting her to sleep is because she's overtired and she actually needs an earlier bedtime. We've put our LO to bed as early as 5:30pm.

I let him take a quick cat nap when we get home just to take the edge off {for both of our sakes}. If he's really tired, he sleeps until I wake him, if not, he gets up on his own; either way it's 30 minutes max.

When she has a bad nap day I do bedtime early. Not too much earlier cause I don't want her waking up at 4 in the morning.

When your LO has a day of bad naps at daycare, what do you do? Let them sleep when you get home? Keep them awake so a late nap doesn't interfere with night sleep?

DD has never been a great napper, and some days she will take a few naps of 30 minutes or less. I feed her as soon as she gets home and she normally falls asleep. Lately, though we are having trouble with the first two hours of night sleep. Bed time is 7:30 or 8, but I feel like I have been spending 2 hours putting her to sleep and getting her to stay asleep.

Should I keep her awake even if she is totally overtired? I thought about moving bedtime earlier, but we only get so much time with her already and I do want to fit in two feedings after daycare.
